| Originally posted by Xavier Moriarty see thats where you're wrong. this is actually a way of life, not just a phase. we breathe, eat, sleep, drink and fuck breaks. i used to work out 6 days a week so that i could do some power moves and i fucking hate working out. breaks reshaped my life in the best way possible do you think tribal was just some phase???? breaks community in toronto and around is fucking huge. trust me its anything but a phase. for the record... last year I booked:
Freq Nasty
Freestylers
bassbin Twins
Afrika Bambaataa
I hate to say it.. but the reason people are aren't throwing breaks events like they used to, is that people aren't supporting them. for the most party, they're not money makers, and the big breaks names want too much money now.. which is not feasible for events in Toronto.
Though my tastes have evolved slightly over the years, I still love the music... but not enough to lose money to bring anyone here.

Icey is *by far* my favourite breaks DJ. fun, fun, fun.
Toronto's always been lukewarm on breaks. I think the promoters figured they'd give it a shot in '07, didn't make as much money as they'd hoped, and gave up in 2008. Shame.
I'd be on a Plump DJs party like a donkey on a waffle.
i feel like breaks has stagnated a while with few fresh ideas coming in from the top guns on the scene let alone any innovative new talent. as such without development it began to die out, now it's really only alive in house-breaks (which isn't breaks at all as much as everyone pretends) and other broken beat forms like d&b.
we can talk about great breaks artists and for sure there is still talent out there but it feels a to me a lot like everyone ran out of steam and lost interest.
maybe i'm wrong but i don't think toronto hates breaks, it's just a dying scene on its last legs.
even somewhere like fabric as someone already mentioned used to be strong for breaks in at least one room a week. now it appears to have made way to even more d&b, some dubstep, UKgarage-house-breaks stuff (sinden etc) and the like. if the uk can't support regular breaks nights then toronto hasn't got a hope.
