Mexico Safety Issues
I've seen threads by SoCal TAs of parties thrown in Mexico and I'm looking for some advice and insight to the current state of Mexico and the safety issues.
We are potentially going to Ensenada for a few days for a wedding in August and I'm unsure of whether the current state warrants the risk of driving from SD to there, as well as the safety issues while staying in the city.
My family in SoCal told me to steer clear of Mexico for the time being and that it has become incredible dangerous in the last 12 months. In fact I found the following articles, which were a little disconcerning:

Body snatching in Ensenada
lol, the company i work for send out an official Warning Order for going to mexico a few days ago. Something kidnapping americans, use of automatic weapons and hand grenades.
I don't worry about small details like that.
Stay far away if you're worried about safety.
I personally wouldn't go there for even the biggest DJ's in the world, and it's about 10 miles away.

~3 years ago i had to live down in TJ.
I was homeless here in America, even though i was born and raised here educated shit happened. I didn't have a place to stay, times were hard i had just gotten my BS and i couldn't find a job. So luckily my rich buddy that lives in TJ let me stay with him in Playas de Tijuana.
Its not as bad as it really is, in the past 2 months i have gone down there like 8 times, 4 to the airport the other 4 to visit my buddy or get my teeth worked on or Puerto Nuevo for 20dlr lobster.
I can tell you that i had no issues in Ensenada, i was just down there a few days for the Baja 500 to see my buddies run there truck.
So i would say it's safe, as long as:
Someone speaks fluent Spanish.
You guys are a decent sized group.
No one make EYE CONTACT with a cop. <- If you do, you WILL get pulled over. And YES they will want money, if this happens tell them that all you have is 20 bucks because you got mugged. They will ask for more but stay persistan t and only take a 20dlr loss.
Don't even look towards the cop cars/trucks, because of ^^
Take the toll road.
Don't give someone a reason to mess with you, ie. don't pull out a wad of cash to pay for something, don't wear expensive clothes/shoes. Stay low profile.
You will have cell coverage, but be careful using it because the international rates are astronomical.
Text when you can, its weird i got to send/receive text's randomly in Ensenada.
Im sure there is more, but this is all i can think of at the moment.
I still go down to Baja, and will always go to Mexico until the day I day. Its my blood, so i cant forget where my family came from.
It depends where you go exactly. Mexico is a beautiful country with a very strong culture. I'm proud to call myself Mexican but the government is corrupt and makes the citizens look bad. The police are some of the worst around, and most of the time they're associated with gangs.
Listen to the advice that Nerologic is giving you, he's right on the dot.
I've been missing going down to Baja. I'm not afraid to go, just haven't found the right time to go. Also, I sure wouldn't go during a big holiday weekend, done that plenty of times already. Crazy times for sure!
So yeah... follow Nerologic's advice.

Nerologic pretty much nailed it. I go all the time and I've been lucky to not have had any problems. A few TA's and I are going in two weeks to see Markus Schulz at Ministry of Sound in Tijuana.

I've been to Mexico many times back in the day so i know how to act but the last trip there was cancun 2005 and it was an all inclusive Hilton resort with 4 armed guards, that's it tho in about 7 years plus with all these articles showing how its gotten 10 times worse in the last 6-12 months, makes me wonder if its worth the risk
Are you kinda afraid cuz you're huerrito? There are plenty of Mexicans that are huerros too.

i'm going to see markuz shulz.
seen tiesto, oakenfold, cattaneo, and burridge down there.
advice i give you: if you have a doubt of doing something it means you probably shouldn't do it.
just remember you are in another country.
mind you own business do what is right and you shouldn't have any issue.
stay on main streets not alleys and stuff like that.
be SMART.
Mexico is dangerous because is full of Mexicans he!

Now seriously the people on the streets are very nice , is just the cops you have to watch out for , they suffer from xenohobia, specially if you are coming from the states .
1)I've been living here for the past 6 moths and eventhough i'm spanish fluent i have a hard time getting aroud because the traffic signs and maps are fucking retarded.
2) Bouncers and club managers are total dicks. I think lawler is never comming back here.
3) In terms of Terrorism and kidnapping that's more to the south of Mexico. Dont worry about that.

Also, there was a article in the LA Times about rich Mexican families moving out of TJ because of the violence...
It pretty crazy down there. I went to high school and college in San Diego and had some pretty fun party times down there. I also enjoyed taking my Grandparents down to TJ for shopping. It's pretty sad to see things go down hill...
Its fine down there.
I just got home from eating lobster down in Puerto Nuevo, NO issues what so ever.
I even filled my tank @ 2.75 a gallon

Seeking advice:
I am planning on meeting some of my cousins in TJ (they're flying to TJ from Monterrey, MX), do you know a decent hotel and places to eat and hang out?
