Johan Gielen TE 2002
I know I'm preaching to the converted here, but I've finally made the time to dl Johan Gielen's Trance Energy 2002 set. Along with Ferry's 2001 and PVD's 2002 Rosenmontags sets, this is pretty close to trance perfection. I think that if I went to a party, and got this for 2 hours, they'd be scraping my corpse off the dance floor because I'd just DIE.
Does anybody know if he's coming out here anytime? I'd sell my mother to see him
I listened to this set for the first time a couple of days ago. And yes, you're right, it perfect. I only wish that I was there to hear it. It must have been an amazing experience.
I'm not sure if he'll be coming to Australia soon. But I really wouldn't be surprised if he is coming. We've had so many quality DJs booked already for this year, and he'd be a welcome addition.
Yep, definately one of thebest sets this year if not in recent years. I think he stuffed it up by playing "Mauro Picotto - Awesome!". WTF is that track...?!
He's probably in my top my 'i want to see live' list. Hope he makes it out here some time.
Yep for sho. This mix is one of the best this year so far! Its very near to perfection. My fav so far this year is Paul Van Dyk @ RosenmontagsRave. That was perfection. But Johan comes close. I've started downloading Blank & Jones @ TE and it's also really good!
mr_stamper: I think the inclusion of the Picotto track was worthy -- along with Marco Bailey - Carrera, it set an 'opposite boundary' for the set. Like PvD's set in Melbourne last week, hard stuff's good for a bit, and only makes the melodies sweeter when they arrive.
I'll agree with you about Picotto's music though; after Tiesto at TT2002, his set was bloody murder on the ears. Tech-trance my butt -- it's just ugly, ugly noise. He should take notes from Marco Bailey on how to do it...
Picotto's style is more techno. And yeh, it gets quite dirty and crazy - which I love
He produces the occasional tech/trancy tune.
and believe me, if you saw him live your body wouldnt stop moving
Yeah I have all the Trance Energy 2002 sets .. they are all damn good
The ones I have:
Johan Gielen
Blank & Jones
Cosmic Gate
Rank 1
DJ Jean
There may be one or two more, but I haven't been able to find them. Basically any set from this year is good
But yeah the first few tracks of Johan (Human Evolution, Lethal Industry, Godd, Close Cover --- wow!!)
Like someone already said, close to trance perfection

yeah that johan gielen set at tranceenergy 2002 is pretty much heaven for every "trance" cheesedick
adjacent_raver: I did see him live, at Two Tribes this year. You're right, my body couldn't stop moving -- out of the arena
stipsy: that's the first troll i've seen on this board
sorry our tastes aren't the same as yours.
Here's a question for all: why is melodic/uplifting trance so often written off as cheese? Sure, Alice Deejay/Darude/every Fragma song except Toca Me (original) I can understand, but Gielen's set?
Of course, the music isn't subtle in its intention nor its method of eliciting emotions, but that can't take away from its inherent beauty. I like hard trance and techno as much as the next guy, but my favourite will always be melodic trance. Somehow that makes me a target for insults, and I'm not quite sure how that happened.
Live in Perth and then say you like trance, especially melodic, uplifting trance, then you can talk about insults...
apparentley dumonde were at TE too, Gielen was amazing he stunned me with brooklyn bounce - club bizarre (dj scot project remix) killa!
Yeah .. and then mixing straight into the Pump mix of Beauty of Silence ... AWESOME
didnt mean to offend anyone sq-k...i just personally really dislike this sort of trance...some of the tracks are decent on this set..the melodies flow like they should in trance music..where as others sound silly imo
fair enough
