[Group C] Romania - France
First game of the "group of death". Romania have a good team but will have to face 3 better ones (in theory), with France being the first.
These games against Romania are going to be decisive, as whoever loses points to them will be at a big disadvantage for going through. This will also be a good way to measure exactly how good are France - they have brilliant individual players, but can they look as impressive as Portugal yesterday or Germany today?
1-0
lets hope France are over the habbit of slow tournament starts because this group is crucial. their first wc group was a joke compared to this so they can`t afford to take it easy right from the start. allez les blues!!
I so want Romania and The Netherlands to advance from this group, but it probably won't happen.
I say les bleus wake up and it's 2-0.
France 2-0
2-2
0-0
Fuck, I will miss it as I won't leave the office before half-time
I don't really know what to think about this game. Last competitions showed that we always sucks at opening games :/
I predict a hard win for us, with 2 late goals.
Here we go!
I really need Evra and/or Nasri subbed into this game for my fantasy squad lol

They look pretty even so far... France needs more creativity in attack, Anelka looks slow.
i just saw Henry with a green jersey in half time.
Did he start with Anelka and not Henry ?
How many strikers up front in the french squad?
Anelka and Benzema upfront. Henry hasn't come in yet.
And now Anelka is replaced by... Gomis.
Seems like Henry is now their 4th option for a striker, lol. Maybe he has physical problems or something.
Henri failed a physical this morning, he won't be in for today.
what a shitty game!!!
Wow that was boring.
Super-boring. I wish I didn't watch this bullshit
Awful, awful, awful
If i were a france supporter, I would have wanted to have win this game, considering the other opponents in this group...

Watching this game strengthens my belief that Domenech is an idiot of a coach. Why were France playing two defensive midfielders against Romania? Everyone knew the Romanians would sit behind the ball and be defensive, so why he needed the cover of two defensive midfielders baffles me. And then, when France needed some creation, he brings on Nasri for a striker! After 75 minutes you'd think it'd become clear that Makelele and Toulalan weren't needed and one could go off for a creative player. He also played Abidal, who did shit-all, over Evra who would have attacked down the left at every opportunity.
On the other hand, Romania actually look pretty strong. They have some good talent with Mutu, Chivu, Dica and so forth, and defensively they were rock solid. They might really complicate this group.
Well, France were pretty much playing a 4-2-4 except the guys that were wingers in theory, were helping the midfield. You can't really play this tactic with a single defensive midfielder, the midfield becomes far too weak. A good alternative would have been a 4-4-2 diamond... without one of the wingers and one of the DMs, entering Nasri and another midfielder.
I agree with you on Evra. Cosmin Contra could've been a fairly dangerous player down that romanian right wing but he really didn't do anything and placing Abidal there to stop him proved to be unnecessary.
France has had a big tactical problem for a while, and it didn't start with the replacement of Zidane, remember they were a bit lost at the beginning of the world cup as they couldn't find a way for all those players to fit.
And yes, Romania aren't bad at all. I've been saying since the beginning that in another group, they could be a surprise. Don't think they are going through but Holland and Italy will have problems against them.
To be fair, France was relatively lackluster in the first round of the World Cup in 2006. Using similar tactics they did today, turning it on in the 2nd round through to the final... And it worked for them then.
Romania is a tough defensive team, not scoring against them is not the end of the world.
