[Group A] Switzerland - Turkey
Both sides desperately need a win and might be outside of the tournament if they don't get one. Switzerland maybe slight favourites as they played well on their first match, unlike Turkey - but I believe Turkey didn't show their full potential.
The most interesting thing about this game is that it brings memories of that World Cup qualifier that ended up with a massive battle.
Key players Frei and Emre are out.
Switzerland to take this one.
Not that easy to predict butgive the home advantage i'll go for some swiss cheese
1-0
Both got 0 point, this is gonna be war again. 1-2
cant stand the swiss for some weird reason...and dont particularly like the current turkish squad either. meh, 2-2.
They're playing in a fucking swimming pool.
It's annoying. Players try to dribble and the ball gets left behind.
This is the worst possible result for us, anything else (draw or Turkey win) and we're qualified.

No, but mathematical certainties are nice.
Turkey pretty much taking their A-game to the Swiss right now
Best game of the tourney so far hands down
Sucks for the swiss who are out, but we're qualified!
And in first place, which should allow us to avoid Germany in the quarter-finals.
Turkey now only needs a draw against the czech. The czech need to win. (edit: this is wrong, I got mistaken by the commentators, both teams are level in goal-average, I don't know what happens if they draw)

According to our commentators the team with higher coefficient from the last two qualifications (WC 06, EURO 08) would go through.
Really enjoyable match to watch.

The second half was very entertaining.
Nah, it'd be decided by penalties, no extra time.
Although in the past, it would of went as far as bookings if they couldn't be separated on points or goals.
This was actually a poor game right up until it started pissing with rain, then it became laughably entertaining, especially when the Turkish keeper flew out of his goal on his arse for the first goal and ended up at the edge of the box.
Good, entertaining match in the second half with both teams going for it in the last 20. Thought a draw would of been a fair result.

It goes straight to penalties if Turkey and Czech tie...
TURKIYE!! TURKIYE!! TURKIYE!!
I suspect this match will be as exciting as watching paint dry then. Both team's will likely be edgy, tentative and wait for the other to make a mistake.
Penalties it is then!
Thanks for clearing this up. I can definitely see this happening.

When level on points the result of the direct confronatations counts, then goal difference, then the number of goals scored. All three criteria will be level if they draw.... guess they'll flip a coin like in the old days. |
both home teams (swiss/aus) are going to be eliminated in group phase
i'm glad turkey won, though, i was waiting for one of the teams to win as i just couldn't imagine it ending a tie. especially when it started raining.
Good game, too bad one of them had to loose.
