Is Progressive House The new Trance?

After being huge in the trance scene for since around 2000. In the last 1-2 i've been getting a bit bored with most of the 140bpm trance music. (though there is the odd good one now and then) Progressive house (at least as its defined by beatport) typically incorporates a trancy melody at around 130bpm or there-abouts. I must say this sub-genre has been allowing me to hold onto what has been a dying genre (at least for my personal taste, not to say in general)

Just wondering your thoughts, and if anyone has strayed the same way i have.

i miss real progressive. it only seemed to exists from 2001-2003. luckily i spun vinyl those days, anyone remember oliver lieb pres. smoked - metrolpolis (erik prydz's munich nu nrg remix) ??? best record i have.

if by the 'new trance' you mean the "laughing stock of dance music", it's been that way for a while actually.

the term is always troublesome because there are so many generations of prog house

I think Progressive House has been the new Trance for quite some time now, but doesnt seem people are doing this style much these days.

Progressive producers has shifted to minimal or electro.

Nowadays, Progressive Trance seems to be everything that is not cheesy.

"Progressive" the new "Trance"? Yeah thats what they were saying in 2001, 7 years ago!

He's right - many former Progressive producers moved onto techier, electro, and more minimal sounding records.

Personally I don't think there are ENOUGH 140+ BPM Trance records. I like my Trance to not only be Progressive and melodic, but also hard and fast. Only Psy-Trance still seems to deliver on high BPMs.

Don't start the same thread in two different places. Just be happy with the answers in one of the threads.

They're all still making prog. Its just prog thats trying not to sound like prog. Martin H has always had some of a techno influence imo.

I get the sentiment, they have changed their sounds, but I wouldn't say they've shifted to minimal or electro since I haven't heard either from any of them. (of course I don't consider that bastardization of house & prog people call "electro" to be that)

Yeh me neither, was just trying to point out that there is some truth to the statement.

Well then hook me up with some examples. Most of what people on here seem to think is a shift in a producer's style seems more to me like them just adding a few in vogue sounds to their usual fare. I aint fooled.

I feel like I'm talking to LionsLair
