Worm Popper Violence in your dreams

How often do your dreams feature violence?

A lot of mine are insanely violent (graphic blood, gore, death, shooting, etc.) even though I never get in fights and rarely watch very violent movies.

Rarely... I can't recall having seen a single death in my dreams this year, actually.

once in a while.

very rarely. i can't remember the last time i had a dream with any physical violence.

Once in a while I'll dream about beating someone up, but no, I'm not usually the aggressor in my dreams.

does violence include jamming kittens into atm machines?

That's probably why it's in your dreams. Watching a lot of violence on TV and getting involved with it in video games (or whatever) is probably a healthy outlet

I'm not usually the aggressor either. Usually I'm either the victim or just a passive observer of two people going at each other.

Giving an example of the kind of weird violence I dream about...

One dream involved five or six guys standing in the middle of this hexagonal tower. There were big openings on the sides of the tower so that people could just fall or run right off. The guys were in the center of the hexagon, but they were facing outward, toward the openings in the tower. Each of them had a kind of chain around his neck.

Suddenly they all started growling, and then they sprinted out to the edge of the tower and the chains "snapped" back, severing the men's heads from their bodies. As the dead bodies hit the ground, they turned into a black liquid that looked like oil, and then the oil sank into the grass and that was the end of the dream.

That sounds so political.

Haha, it does, now that you mention it.

I hadn't thought of it in those terms...

The other night I dreamed I was watching one of them "world's most shocking video" shows on television. They were showing a MotoGP accident, and as they replayed it, it kept getting more and more graphic with heads and limbs being torn off.

Very rare for my dreams to have that type of violence. Most of it is just fistfights

in high school i had a recurring dream that the class of 2001 (i'm class of '99) walked the school halls as zombies and would stab and mutilate anyone that was too slow to avoid them. the school was locked from the outside and there was no way to escape (our school's windows opened just a smidge). my being on track allowed me to stay alive in all my dreams.

shortly after college, i watched as a swat team that could move only by jumping about 40 feet at a time took down my friends one by one. the dream ended when a swat guy landed suddenly in front of me and shot me in the face. the final thought i had in this dream was "oh! so this is what it's like to get shot in the face!"

I don't remember dreaming about anything at all lately, I'm not sure I have dreams, and if I do I always forget what they were as soon as I wake up...

I've had a couple of violent dreams in which I was the aggressor.

It would start in some sort of situation in which I'm just chilling with a friend. Someone takes offense to something we're doing that is mundane, and we get warned. We don't repeat the offense on purpose, and then i get confronted by the individual. The guy gets irrate and starts yelling at us, and then pops out a gun. At that point I'm scared but only for about 5 seconds when i make peace with death. I dare the gunman to shoot, and starts to second guess that I'm bluffing. Then I put my head right at the barrel waiting for him to pull the trigger. As he looks at my buddy, I start swinging, and knock him to the ground after a 1-2 combo. He falls on his back and then proceed to ground and pound him as be-little him for not calling my bluff. I pound his face until he stops moving, and with every blow I feel like I'm about to tear a muscle in my arms. By the time I'm done I feel crazy surge of adrenaline. I wake up more tired than the night before. The dream happens in first person, and also in third person view.

Don't know what triggers the dream but I have had this type of dream a handful of times in the past year or so. It doesn't make sense to me because I'm usually the type to avoid conflict.

yea and they always involve my mother. lol

she drives me nuts and we're always fighting about dumb shit and making up. so every now and then i have a strange dream where i'm beating the shit out of her. it's weird. i don't tell her about them of course. lol

that's the reason why you have them.

Posted by tubularbills on Jun-16-2008 17:30:

i've had a few violent dreams....most of them have been on the "Seeing" end of it tho...like i'll watch something violent happen...i won't be participating in it; just watching it from a distance.

although a few times the violence has happened to me.

I have fighting dreams all the time, its the same everytime, I throw a load of punches full power but by the time they reach the guys face they just seem to brush off causing no damage, ahhhhh!!! Fuckin ahhhh!!

Then when I phone the police in my dreams I have sausage fingers and can never dial the numbers I want.

Or the classic getting chased by someone and your running like f**k but not going anywhere lol

only on sodomist dreams

Very rarely. I don't recall ever having a dream that's more violent than a fist fight. These dreams are always somewhat similar. Someone says or does something to me, after which I proceed to clinch them, than a take down and a decent ground and pound. Strangely enough that's my favorite strategy for mma sparring.

Posted by JD8180 on Jun-16-2008 23:30:

haven't had anything violent recently, but one thing i did notice one thing though. every time i get into a fist fight in a dream, everything seems normal up to the point where i start throwing punches. it feels as if i'm punching underwater all slow motion-like. the guy i'm fighting typically just stands there and takes it though.

Posted by wotyzoid on Jun-16-2008 23:49:

What does it mean when you don't dream or you don't remember your dreams?

Posted by pierre_escargot on Jun-16-2008 23:59:

Not sure woty, perhaps you've got the memory span of a goldfish

I tend to remember most dreams I have up until the point where I have to get out bed and do some useful with myself. I don't think I've a violent dream in a while though, and If I do, they involve me being chased around for fucking dream days until I'm about to die, then I wake up as I'm about to hit the deck.
