what do you need for your first gig?

I'm an ableton live user
This is what I have:

PC w/ableton live
M-Audio AXIOM 49
M-Audio Fast Track Pro

Will the m-audio fast track pro be enough to hook up my system to the big speakers?
What else do I need?

You're gonna take a PC to your gig?

Posted by adi_hanson on Jun-17-2008 21:27:

seriously , you need to research this more and tag along to gigs to see how they work and you need hard records or cds on decks not your pc ,plus as mr JBJ said you have to be good and show you can do it first

Go learn just how extensively Ableton can be used. Most people don't use it to even half of its potential, but you really should go look into it.

What?

You've never seen ONE of the thousands of DJs who play their music off a laptop using various methods?

Posted by adi_hanson on Jun-17-2008 21:46:

obviously not? ive have ever only seen yoji with a laptop and that was for his intro , and im honestly shocked, so the art of dj'ing with vinyl and cds is under threat from laptops?

and to the other poster , ive never seen ableton so i would had to look into it

You have a very, very narrow and limited experience of what DJing is.

Get out more. Lots of people are djing using records in conjunction with laptops. (google "traktor scratch" and "serato")

The art of DJing is only under threat from people who are not good at DJing, medium used is largely irrelevant.

I think that was a dig at the reliability of PCs versus Macs.

Because taking a PC to a gig is dumb.

Buy a laptop.

Posted by adi_hanson on Jun-17-2008 22:10:

im going to go away and study loads and loads like in the movies and read about production, dj'ing and replying to a multiple meaning tranceaddict post and have a soundtrack overplaying and then i will come back and beat the bad guys in true hollywood style

Posted by Clovis on Jun-17-2008 22:13:

It's gonna take you a while.

I think the OP is referring to a PC vs a Mac, but I believe Clovis is thinking PC vs laptop

And adi, djing isn't "under attack" by any means, but with Ableton one doesn't need cds and/or records to play music. Especially off of a computer. The software with the computer would be interfaced with some kind of MIDI controller and connected into a mixer, or if you have the money, some kind of MIDI controller/mixer hybrid.

IMO CDs have more soul than a computer.

I think control vinyls + laptop is the best we've come to in terms of a balance between new technology and an old school art.

And what exactly does that change?

Maybe he wasn't talking about PC as in desktop, but laptop after all.

And that would be great...somehow I don't think that is the case...
