JBJ - "008899" (trance? techno?)
Fooled around in Reason yesterday and came up with a couple sounds, then built a track around them today with a bunch of 909 and 808 percs. Most of the variation comes from the percussion.
I think it sounds pretty danceable. Not sure what genre it would fit under.

Mixing and mastering need some work.
Turn it up loud and tell me what you think.
I'll be balls deep in it in a few minutes.
Edit: DUDE! This is wonky-as-fuck! I think it needs a bit more in the high end early, but it is nice the way that it's basically nothing and then kicks back in, really gives the tune a sense of flow. With tunes that are kind of "MNML" techno like this, I think some of the best way you can really give them a chuggy vibe is to vary the percs, and you have done an absolutely epic job of it in here.
That kind of acid sounding second bassline that comes in at 2:00 is awesome and will sound great on a big set of speakers.
I will be playing this all Summer. All, Summer. ![]()
I can has a 320 or WAV?
See stream of consciousness drivel edit above
Wow, thanks for the timely response and comments.

Really, really like it though. Reminds me of tons of stuff from Justin Long's set at DEMF - kind of like a weird bastardization of drummy techno and acid basslines. Simple but effective. |

Percs are great, although a lot of them sound like sound bank stuff. Rest of the track is cool, but missing something imo. The bassline is kind of generic.
Its all good, just nothing really stands out to me or grabs me.
Def keep workin it though, you're going somewhere with this.
running commentary
i love 808 and 909 percs, they're the ultimate in creating a specific techno sound, and you've done a great job here
less keen on the synths, but thats purely cos of the reason element.
switch this over to ableton and use some vsts and I think you're in business
great work
cute stuff, really started to appreciate @ 2m10 though
a little simple for my taste, but at least its clean and clear.
I'm not really feeling this one, tbh. It's well built up, but a bit too dull.
This has potential. The EQ is your friend, when you CUT frequencies out. You've got a few that need to go to balance things out a bit.
Remix? PM me if you wanna let me take a crack at it.
definitely on the trancey side
brief commentary as i am trying to leave work
don't really like the tinny synths - the reason problem as pointed out above
percussion - cut everything off before 0:30. that's unnecessary and those patterns are trite. i like what you are doing after 0:30 - very UR
i think all the percs need to swing more and they need more variation and play. very slight changes in level, timing, timbre, reverb, etc
it feels very 'safe' to me, which is at odds with the instruments you are sampling and the historical legacy that they have. it's too predictable and controlled IMO
the call and answer arrangement is a little annoying to me because it just seems like a back and forth that doesn't go anywhere. too 'songy' of an arrangement overall, despite its apparent sonic differences

listen to the textural use of percussion and the ever present groove
the percussion you have added at the end should carry through more of the track. it's too grooveless at the beginning. you can carry them all the way through and just change how long they are sustained, etc
well im not a big know it all about music production but i am a (beadroom) DJ and i like this one. i might play it out this weekend at my first gig. ill let you know how the crowd likes it though people might not be paying attenition becouse i am the last dj at a Dnb show at 8 am. i really do like it.
heard it... it gets really loopy... i guess thats the general thing your after, sounds are interesting and give that trancey feel, but the kick needs more kickness in it, i dont really like those 808 kicks...
good job, but not my taste...
You could turn it into a reasonable track using only 4:41 - 4:48 and your acid line...
If your going back in time with the sounds..it'll have to stand out a bit more than that...
I like the feel of this. Sounds a little empty though I know thats what you are going for.
Do some of the percs need widening?
Love the deep acid sound that comes in. Very cool.
At this point, I'm feeling that the percs are lacking the necessary groove to give the track the rhythm it needs. The patterns of the percs sound a little basic like I can clearly hear how you've programmed them when in a tune like this, I shouldn't be able to at all.
However I do like the overall feel of the track and the loopiness is fine with me, it works.
Needs work but excellent potential. And very different to a lot of the stuff on here so well done at that side as well.
