Thumbs down Paul van Dyk @ Space Terrace 6/22/2008 Review

good set... too short... but i still want my fucking money back!

i havent seen pvd since 2005 so i really wanted to go... i shouldnt of gone... i had a good time... but a 2 hour 45 minute terrace set... are you kidding me??

i dont blame the guy... he tried... the high bmp house he played was dope, but every time he tried to go trancey the crowd didnt react well and he was stuck to house. which most of which he played was decent, but still...

2:45 wtf?!

vids and pics to come...

ps... staff was also really gay... door guy was like "we're doing a survey, howd you two meet?" wtf? getting to the terrace was a fuckin mission... upstairs the bar bitch ided me... lol and then finally when we were sitting down sober as all hell some security guy came by and said "are you okay?" okay dude ive been fucked out of mind at space before and NOW you wanna ask me if im okay... HHAHAAHHAHAH!

pps... good seeing everyone we saw... hope you all had a decent time.

Posted by phoenixBEBE on Jun-22-2008 14:46:

wait, wasnt this sposed to be the 4am-4pm afterparty????

and why were ppl not reacting well to the trance he was throwing down? umm hes a TRANCE producer...are we talking about the same guy?? of course i don't like overplayed current trance anthems and all, but his classics STILL RULE!!!

man if this didnt go on into the afernoon then im so glad i didnt fly down for this...

i sort of figured it would turn out something like this and he would resort to some proggy stuff. my bro just showed me the videos and tbh, the crowd looks dead. I saw 7 videos already and in each and every one, crowd looks inadequate for the trance he was playing. It seems like a good set but the crowd must have had an effect on him too. Looks nothing like the first terrace set we were all at. I didnt' experience this one firsthang though, so I'll stay reserved. Looking forward to reviews. WTF happend?

The crowd didn't react well to PVD playing trance? It's fuckin' PVD! Who did they pay to go see?

well a bunch of dirty sweaty coked up or methed out people in the muggy humid miami sun after a night of huge thunderstorms and nasty rain... are you really THAT surprised?

its not even the crowd that bothered me... or even the music... i had a good fucking time regardless of anyone or anything else... but what does bother me is the fact that i was having a good time and it got cut short because pvd could only hack it for 2 hours 45 mins and thats .

pics...

vids coming...

He toreee down the terrace is all I can say with his Pyramid (Dirty South Remix) intro into Pjanoo man I was vibin hard already lol. It was something diff but I def had a great time awesome set but man it was short blah!

Posted by PatMcGroin on Jun-22-2008 19:51:

oh another piece of garbage was paying $57.50 per ticket for tickets on wantickets with the fee and then seeing it was only $50 at the door. i mean im not surprised its just frustrating like always... but what can you do.

oh and for those wondering too... pvd was VERY animated the whole time he was spinning... ive never seen him that animated which was nice... but the ****** still shoulda played longer!

Yeah he had good crowd interaction but I liked his encore coming back with Let Go than into Crush...

I'll give a proper review later cuz my flight leaves at 9:30 and I just wanna say one thing.

I "think".. PvD prob doesn't play no more than 6 hours at a venue. Which is why I think he ended so early.

I heard he went on at 2am @ Cameo and if he played till 5 = 3 hours plus the 2 hours and 45 mins at Space.

Just saying this because in New York he ALWAYS plays 6 hours. You guys should come to his Roseland gigs. Fa rly

Don't know if anyone noticed but Paul actually was trying to play longer and some Space tech guy told him to shut it down. So it was Space who cut things short for PVD. Although a short set we loved every minute of it. I buzz off PVD wearing sunglasses though.

Ant & I are there bitch...I gotta see PvD @ least once in my life for 6 hrs & Miami isn't the place for that anymore...only time I know of is back in 2003 @ the old Space which Ant attended.

I think the music was good & I liked PvD's energy...aside from a short set I have no complaints...hanging with the usual suspects was great as always! Spacemasters & I were talking about how long it had been since we were all together like that so I am glad to see the turnout.

All in all, that was by far the best time I've ever had on that patio.

Love with he put on his shades!! That was just awesome & in true spirit.
Funniest shit of the nite: heard two dumbass bitches in the bathroom talking shit about his set after seeing a Morillo poster & saying how he was real music & PvD made them want to kill themselves...that was the funniest shit I ever fuking heard & it goes to show how the kind of crowd the patio has. It's like people paying $50 for an event just cuz it's afterhours & not knowing who the hell is playing.

If he plays on the patio again I would go but in hopes that he plays longer than 2 hrs.

Nice crowd and vibe, thankfully not overly packed, and more women than I have seen at a PVD show in a while (albeit a very high skank/stripper/hooker/hoochie/terrace-dweller quota).

Note I am a huge fan of PVD and had fun last night. But in my honest opinion for PVD that set musically was average. Once PVD transitioned completely out of the slow house Patrick M was playing PVD started dropping some nice deep techy tracks. At that point I thought the set had potential & we could be in store for a patented PVD ripping that you would not be able to stop dancing to. But it never really materialized fully IMO, and the set structure & flow was not there. Instead the set wandered aimlessly at times between trance and house, & he seemed to try waaaay too hard to work both into the set with an attempted perfect ratio of each by abruptly going from a trance song to a house song and back again over-and-over again. He did that instead of building into anything progressively, instead of playing more to the crowd & sticking to what was working, the TECHY shit, which every time he dropped the crowd went absolutely crazy. He also dropped some played out and even commerical tracks I think we have all have heard 500000 times, and can do without from a top notch DJ like him ?????

I do agree with others that the set was too short, but I expected it to go 3 hours, so 2.75 was close to what I expected. And they were charging $30 at the door, so shame on them for ripping off PVD's fans that bought tickets online

blah blah blah, TL plz. thx.

you sure about this? i walked into space at around 4:00 and all the signs said PVD $50, and all the bouncers were saying cover was $50.

Yes, but not @ 4 a.m. My friends showed up at 6 a.m. & paid $30 each.

One track I heard that sounded super tiiiight on the LOUDDDD system is Super8 + Tab .: Elektra

At first I didn't care for it until this morning lol
He teaseddd before he got off when he played like 45 seconds of Randy Katana .: Last One FUKIN' AY I went totally crazy cuz I love that track & it's very terrace material & then he mixes out of it boo

Cressida - 6AM (Kyau & Albert Remix) <---I fuking LOVE this track!!
Funkagenda .: What The Fuck (so fuking TIRED of that shit already)
PvD .: Let Go
PvD .: New York City (some weird remix)
Coast 2 Coast .: Cut Me

There was this one disgusting ass track that had some sick ass techy sounds, I was like

I IDed a couple more but I can't remember @ all [lack of sleep].

wow... cant believe the $30 shit.

seriously with space you never know what to expect... sometimes you can get fucked at the door and other times you get fucked online... its always 50/50. wtf is up with their management lately?

Posted by teckniqueZ on Jun-23-2008 00:55:

I'm kind of glad that I can just sit in my hotel room and read this.

Heard from several people that don't typically like or even tolerate trance that he was excellent @ Cameo. Then I look at people's responses from the Space party and it seems meager at best. Everyone knew going in that it was going to be a really hard sell spinning to a house oriented audience such as the terrace peeps. The guy could have thrown down a legendary set and the crowd still wouldn't have reacted much different.

Glad that everyone had fun though.

cameo 2-5
space terrace 6-8:45

the sun was just starting to come up when pvd came on.

main room was closed when we left at 9... dunno if it was open before... got to space at 5 and main room was about 1/3rd full with a huge line to go up to the terrace... i heard as well that at 4am they kicked everyone out of the terrace and then only let people with afterhours wristbands upstairs. i guess because it was free before 1am for oscar g.

2 hours and 45 minutes? woah talk about short.

Cameo and Space = Double disappointment
I LOVE Paul Van Dyk but I didn't like his sets at all, i am one of the few peeps in here that you can still call a TRANCE ADDICT , I live and I die for Trance and unfortunately he didnt play any yesterday CAMEO was just a waste of precious time (sleep) and Money. he did play almost the same track list at both clubs. I am happy for those who had a good time, sorry i cannot say the same for me

I was expecting to see the PVD who played @ the ROXY and @ Space in 2003, 2004
Ill stop bitching and get over it

Im sorry in my opinion I had an awesome time on the terrace , Paul was animated and having fun spinning in the morning.... His intro was insane!

Love is in the air

i am rrrrrrrreally fuking tired. Haven't slept because I was going to wait to land at home in NY.. but my flight got canceled!

I have one more day here and now I leave Monday at 930 at night.

wooooooooooooooooooot.

I had fun when PvD played trance at peak time back in June 06. I don't think trance is good for afterhours. PvD played a good set. Short but sweet.

I just don't like that Space/Cameo had to split him and they charged full fuking price for 1/2 of a normal pvd set.

2 hours is weak. Very weak. I did like the end. Instead of playing an encore track he played a "pvd classic megamix". So you heard the sweet parts of some of his older tracks.

I *thought* he opened with Pryda-Pjanoo and that the song before was Patrick M's last song. But now I am not 100% sure. Oops. I'm tiny. Kinda hard to see unless I'm on the box

WTF was space doing being a fuking dick and letting one person at a time causing a crazy fire hazard while the patio was empty? STUPID!

Trance on the Patio = Great when it's 1-4am. But omfg.. I just about had a heart attack when PvD played Ruff Driverz feat. Arrola - Dreaming. Plus the other Brinca Brinca track. Go PvD for playing some spanish tuuuuuuuuuuunes \o/

Vamos a jugar en el sol
todos los dias son dias de fiesta

edit - pvd plays with abelton ALOT now. It kinda confuses me. I thought I heard some Life Less Ordinary samples, Off the World samples.. Such teases! Oh he played Filo & Peri - Shine On. . More will come to me but I haven't slept in 24 hours. bear with me.

edit - ooh yeah how could I fuking forgettttttttttttttttttttttt
