2008 Olympics
searched a year back and didn't see a thread for it. i'm looking forward to the steeple chase. it has to be the most entertaining race ever.
I did this race in HS. I remember it was 3000 meters of running with an added bonus of not trying to fall in the water(if so you would be laughed at sooo bad after the race)
.
how the hell do you jump when your knackered from running? i would be laughed at
I'm boycotting this Olympics by refusing to watch.
Fucking Chinese government!
it's time for us Americans to make fun of NBC's pathetically shitty coverage of the Olympics again!

you might even scissor the hurdle right into your groin

Being a former competitive swimmer myself, I'm looking forward to the swim events at this years Olympics. Michael Phelps definitely won't win every race, might not even win the 200 IM or 400 IM either. Ryan Lochte is crazy this year, all he's been doing for the past 3 years is training for the Olympics. Phelps has been out getting that cash, which I commend him for. Be prepared for an upset this year.

a nice article talking about NBC not realizing it's 2008 and using more tape delay!
anyone remember the Triplecast?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triplecast
why can't NBC stay out of this and leave it to a station that actually covers sports as part of their daily programming like ABC or Fox.
btw, major lulz at the video trunks posted
us men's bb team looked pretty decent the other night. opposed to the last couple of teams they've put together...this one can make a couple jump shots.
the only news from the Olympics I've heard is that the US Olympic footy squad beat Japan. Did any other events happen?

been watching all the matches online through nbc(pretty good stream). So far, in terms of football, Argentina and Italy have looked the strongest. Great overall play. The chinese crowd is awesome. They really get into it. Can't wait for swimming, basketball and the other sports to begin this weekend.

While the rest of the world gets to see the Olympic opening ceremonies live, we in the US have to wait for it on tape delay.

For Olympic Viewers, a Long Wait American television viewers are in for a 12-hour wait to see the opening ceremonies of the Olympics on Friday, as NBC is waiting until the evening in the United States to show the three-hour spectacle from the Birds Nest in Beijing. The ceremony started at 8 p.m. in Beijing and at 8 a.m. on the East Coast of the United States. Because the network paid $894 million for the United States rights to the Olympics, it is waiting until prime time to show the ceremony. A wider audience will equal higher revenues for NBC, which has sold $1 billion in advertising time during the Olympics. In an Internet age where virtually every other news outlet is covering the ceremony in real time, NBCs lack of timely coverage irritated some would-be viewers. The opening ceremonies are under way and Today has a cooking segment, remarked Charles Barthold, using Twitter to complain about the restrictions. On Today, the networks morning show which is broadcasting from Beijing for the duration of the Olympics, the co-hosts barely acknowledged that the nearby stadium was abuzz with activity. That may be because, according to TVNewser, Fridays Beijing segments on Today were pre-taped. The program interviewed Michael Phelps, showcased Olympic fashion and hosting a dumpling tasting session, and repeatedly reminded viewers that the ceremony broadcast would begin at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time on NBC. On NBC the ceremony will be part of a four-and-a-half hour block of coverage co-hosted by Matt Lauer and Bob Costas. Because NBC is the United States rights-holder for the Games, television viewers will see little video of the ceremony during the day on Friday. But other television networks sought out unique ways to cover the event. CNN broadcast live from one of the fan zones in Beijing where citizens could watch the ceremony on giant screens. On Twitter, frustrated users posted links to international live video feeds of the Games, including one from the CBC in Canada. The Rings blog has collected links to other video sources. Alexander Meyer, a mechanical engineer in Milwaukee, summed up the predicament in a post on Twitter Friday morning: Trying to not look at any media because I want to watch the NBC hi def broadcast of the opening ceremony. For viewers like Mr. Meyer, itll be a long day. |
