They (italians) sang it when Italy won WC 2 years ago. I was in Trieste at the time with friends.

I've heard the Russians also use the chant below but obviously not in Italian.

I heard the following version: Was the theme song for a football program in Italian TV's RAI. Was then adopted by AC Milan around 2005-2006. After WC title all Italians started using it. Since then it's played in stadiums throughout all Europe. (Austria's Rapid Wien copied it after an away game against Brugge for example). Catchy but of course annoying after a while.

I heard a lot of fellow Dutch fans chant it as well.

Lol, I was in the Liquid Club in Bern the after Holland - France. It's a nice club, a bit expensive. Though, there was a group of approx. 10 Dutch fans who were chanting this tune every 20 minutes or so. Must have driven Robbie Rivera (yes, the dj of the night) pretty crazy

Then why is the writing credit given to a Mexican?

How am i supposed to know......?

after a quick wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cielito_Lindo

quote:
According to his biography, Quirino Mendoza y Corts was inspired by a girl he met on a trip into the mountains who had a beauty mark. He wrote the music and all but the opening verse which was, except for small changes, lifted from a much earlier song from Spain.

Sounds about right. Folk songs usually get lifted and changed.

Anyhow i think we can agree..... when there is a mariachi band for a birthday or something, its a great song to sing while drunk as fuck.

Well.... yell not sing

According to Wikipedia:

The main riff of the song has turned into a popular chant that has become a staple at various sporting events around the world. "Seven Nation Army" was first sung during the UEFA Champions League matches of Club Brugge in the season 2003-2004.
