Employment Insurance

yeah so I just got my MA and am looking to get a job with the government (preferably CSIS or the DND but it's ultra competitive)or with a non-profit organisation, research group, etc.

Anyway I'm wondering if it's worth even trying to go on EI for a few weeks or couple of months while I do a proper career search? It's probably going to take me a few months to find a worthwhile job, but I'd rather do that than search for a transitional job. I haven't worked full time in over two years. I did do a bunch of TAships which basically amounted to 10 hours a week for three 26-week long terms. Not very much income to be sure. So based on that income, is it even worth it? But aren't people who are first "entering the work force" entitled to EI as they start off?

I have been to the EI site but I was curious to see if anyone knows anything about the process, eligbility, etc from personal experience?

Thanks.

Hey if you're planning to go on EI for a couple weeks then you probably won't even get a single cent cause it takes 28 days to process, since there's a 2 week period that you don't pay, then another 2 weeks to get the cheque.
