Yiannis Douskos has become one of the main front runners to emerge from his homeland of Greece and make an impact upon the international electronic scene over the course of the past few years. As Dousk, he has earned the recognition and respect of many of the world's key DJs including John Digweed, Dave Seaman and Hernan Cattaneo and this is further highlighted by his ongoing relationships with labels that include Bedrock, Audio Therapy and Vapour Recordings, amongst many others.
2005 saw the beginning of his relationship with Klik Records, with the inaugural artist release 'D.I.Y', an album that traversed a multitude of underground genres, seamlessly drawing in elements of downtempo, breakbeat, trip hop and house and presenting them in via a unique, multi layered listening experience that received widespread acclaim from all corners of the dance scene.
In the time that has since passed, Dousk's career has diversified, and his musical direction has reflected this. Whilst he was heralded as a 'great talent', the depth and creative genius that has become prevalent in his music since the release of 'D.I.Y', has transformed him into a credited creator, and this is evidenced through the output that features on his sophomore album 'Kind Of Human'.
Featuring 16 new and previously unheard tracks, Dousk's second venture for Klik Records is far more organic and natural than it's predecessor, venturing deeper into the downtempo sounds that were briefly touched upon previously, drawing in elements of lounge and jazz, and featuring live instrumentation via Dousk's collaboration with Greek band Flakes, whom provide guitar and drum accompaniment on such tracks as 'Flunked', 'Dolly' and 'Good For You'.
The end result is a deeper, more soulful and humanistic album, one that steadily develops from its opening and comes to fruition by the time it comes to its warm and emotive climax. An album that highlights the continuing growth and potential of one of Greece's best talents, and one that will musically expand with each listen.
Do we know whether it'll be mixed or unmixed?
We do not. I presume it'll be the same as DIY, with no real mixing but the tracks gently fading into eachother?
We'll find out; I await.

always enjoyed dousk proggy dark beats..
Awesome, I'm suprised that the track 'Nails' is not on it though ..
Samples for all the tracks can be found here: http://www.klikrecords.gr/cd-detail.asp?idproduct=73
Pretty curious about the full package, it's definitely not a carbon copy to D.I.Y.
Interesting, judging from the samples. Remember me of some Herbert stuff.

Really liking this album, wasn't aware that Dousk had this kind of music in him.
I'm really liking this too. It's varied and playful. The tracks are not too long, it never gets boring. Really fun stuff.

It's been growing on me too
I also have listened to this album a few times and likes it very much.
It sounds very very good and the fact that Dousk has classical music training shows in the composition of the music - some of it is beyond the ability of Joe Random Laptop Producer. There's quite a bit of different styles but it works and it's a good thing IMHO and shows many facets of this producer.
My only minor gripe is the 2 or 3 useless and forgetable mnml tracks.
ooh i really like some of these
seranata delouxe
touch me light mama
good for you
pentatonic
are great
how the hell ass table made the cut i have no idea
very great to hear something unexpected, fresh, and interesting from someone i thought was lost in dark prog forever
I will have to check this out
I thought DIY was great
Not sure what to make of this. I listened to the sample clips online. A sophomore album is always tough for an artist. It needs to be inventive and fresh, while at the same time proving the first album wasn't just a fluke. I like the fact that Dousk is exploring other styles of music. Serenata Delouxe is the best track I've heard so far, really inspiring and has a very jazzy and nostalgic feel to it. Really reminds me of that classic Groove Armada album Vertigo. The rest of the selection didn't peak my interest the way it should, and I love downtempo music.
It is definately different from DIY. Some tunes i enjoyed are Touch me light mama, Flunked, Fat Princess, The Place, Dolly, Boy Toy and Heavy Armor (very prydish
).
7.5/10
Guys, I finally got my hands on an original copy of this album and all I can say is: it's amazing. Dousk is jazzy, funky, progressive, housy & ambient at the same time.
My favs are Gigi, Fat Princess, Ko Lee & Heavy Armor.
Can't wait for another album!
