-- Xbox vs. PS 2
Xbox vs. PS 2
Hey guys,
After the significant price cuts of both consols, i am planning on buying either one. Now, I've heard that Xbox has better graphics and that it can play regular computer games (dunno if thats true), but the PS2 has the advantage of playing DVD's also (its like hitting two birds with one stone so-to-say) , but which one do you think will most of the gamers out there be playing in 5-6 years time? and which consol will withstand all the upgrades (like online gaming) with the least chance of getting screwed?
The thing with me is that I get bored pretty fast of playing the same game over and over again, so the cost of the actual games themselves is an issue (cuz i'm gonna be having sh*t loads of them). How much is a typical game for Xbox and PS2? Which one gives a bigger variety in games? which controller is more comfortable for long hours of playing or performing combos? Which one do you actually look forward to sitting in front of the TV and playing for hours? you know simple stuff like that.
If you can answer a few of these questions and add a few comments of your own, it would be of great help not just for me, but for other people as well.
Cheers yall,
the X-box's DVD/CD drive breaks easily.. see www.hardocp.com
i am more a PS2 fan... but that is just me
Well, the GameCube is my choice, but lots of people will be put off by the cute design.
The Xbox can play DVDs, with a $30 remote you buy extra. The Xbox can't play PC games. The Xbox has an uncertain future (it did shit in Europe and Japan). But it has a few good games.
The PS2 can play DVDs. It has a 'near endless' supply of new games. Some of them are great, most of them are shit. The PS2 is selling loads more than the competition, so it will run for a few more years yet.
It depends on personal choice, really.
x box everytime dude!
and it plays dvd`s......
ps2 gettin more dated by the day!
From what i've read the past few days, I am leaning on PS2. But i still need reasons why Xbox fans chose that instead of PS2.
I still need feedback on the controllers and the typical game prices.
Sorry to annoy you guys like this but I wanna make the "right" choice. After all $300 CAD is quite a lot of money.
Oh yea another question, Which consol crashes more often?
I have so much info that i'm goin

-If you want good games get a PS2. There are simply so many developers devoted to this system. It might not be a graphical powerhouse but gameplay is what makes games worth playing and the PS2 has that down.
-Sony has also announced that it's urging developers to set the price of all games to $40 (instead of $50 now) so along with the system cost cut, you'll be saving quite a bit of money.
-Xbox can't play regular computer games. Only if the developer decides to port it over to the system at which point you're better off buying it for your computer with it's (probably) higher processing and graphical power.
-PS2 controller is considered to be the most comfortable and functional throughout the video game industry.
-In 5 or 6 years you'll be playing a PS3. Xbox will be dead due to it's lack of European and Japanese sales.
If it were up to me I'd buy a PS2. I know I'm biased since I'm an owner but this is just my opinion. I hope none of you die-hard Xbox people are pissed off. I know how angry one can get after being brainwashed by the evil superpower known only as Microsoft...
Just go get a Playstation2 will ya

Nintendo has owned E3. Zelda, Mario, Metroid, 1080, Resident Evil 0... The only thing Sony had was GTA, really.

Well, since you're asking whether you want an Xbox or PS2, the answer is simple:PS2. Aside from Halo, Xbox has nothing thats groundbreaking...maybe Project Ego, but thats not out, and so far its all talk. Nobody has had enough time to play that game and say it will be groundbreaking. Xbox has better graphics, but graphics don't make a game. Both have the ability to play DVD's, but with Xbox, you will also have to buy a remote control that will "enable" that feature. In 5-6 years, most gamers will be playing PS3 and the new Nintendo system, whatever it'll be called.
I, for one, have a different dilemma. PS2 or Gamecube. Metroid Prime is making me drool all over, but the fact that MGS2 is still on PS2 is holding me back from getting a Cube...there is the possibility of getting MGS2 Substance for PC...but, it just won't be the same, playing a console game on a PC. Just like with MGS1 on PC, so many of the cool features were gone, like the way you beat Mantis.
Before you buy anything, I suggest you read a bit on the PS2 and Gamecube. Cube's are $229 Canadian now, and it's a great system. Like I mentioned in a previous thread in this forum, Metroid Prime, all the new single player Resident Evil's, Eternal Darkness, Too Human, Perfect Dark (hopefully it'll come out) are gonna be amazing game's...and the current flock of PS2 games are kickin ass as well, GTA3, MGS2, Devil May Cry and Silent Hill 2 more specifically.
And yeah, Nintendo is completely owning E3...even though I was hoping for more Sega announcements for Gamecube...
