The power of WHAT?

Just been watching a program on TV about the rising (and fast at that) of british youths carrying weapons and stabbing and shooting at each other over things as little as a postal code area.

But 99.9 percent of the program was about black people and families

Is it the Rap music ,this program didnt go much into the causes just the family fall out afterwards.

your opinion?

Among a huge chunk of the black youth...in britain and America, it's not considered 'cool' to study hard in school...to get good grades...to speak proper english...to aim for college. Many consider this stuff to be "acting white"...while the whole "I'm a hard mutha f*cka..bout it-bout it -West SIIIIDE!" gangsta culture is something to be aimed for and respected. I see very few young black guys in my city that don't try to talk with a thug accent when I meet them. They always sag their pants, and trying "act hard" in public with apathetic/disrespectful looks on their faces...rather than acting natural the way they surely do around their close family. It's not just rap music... It's something more deeply rooted in the culture that I won't pretend to understand.

I didn't think many acted much different around their families.

I do hate that bull shit "don't rat" non sense they have going on. WTF is that? Ridiculous.

I can't believe ppl would know something and keep quiet just because rap songs are telling them not to snitch.

I don't understand why people would snitch in victimless crime situations.

hiphop music and culture is deffinatley partly to blame, but not all blacks who listen to rap music, act all gangsta and tough and commit crimes, so u cant say its the main reason. black ppl do commit more crimes then white ppl though. and look at countries like jamaica and the high murder rates with mostly a black population and a small population in the country or places like detroit where 80% of the ppl are black...

that's a mouthful.

Hiphop turned into house in the US this year. Proof: Kayne West's (sp?) new song. Maybe black people will start wearing tighter clothes, go to pool parties and say the phrase "I know right?"

Trying to find out what causes the antisocial behaviour begs the question what causes prosocial behaviour.

Might get us somewhere?

I partly agree, however I think that how the child is rised and what environment they grow up in is the main factor. If you grow up with a crackwhore mum and you dad(s) are in jail/committing crimes then your not going to think the same as someone who comes from a perfect nuclear family, you may want to 'get out' and get a good education, but all your 'friends' are lazy and are helping repeat the cycle of drug abuse and violence.
A lot of rap/hiphop gives the image to these kids that the only thing worth while in this world is chrome teeth and bitches

The saddest of all is when you see a white kid acting like a black "gangsta"...

I thought that this kind of rap was dying or already dead. At some point, people get bored of hearing and seeing the same shit over and over and over.
