Any other digital camcorder users here?
Got gifted a really nice digital camcorder (Sony HDR-SR11) recently. Happens to be my first one. People say it's a superior gadget but I feel like I can't even begin to release its potential until I can get some advice on:
a) HOW to use it properly (going through the manual is nice but there are a lot of technical terms and methods that I want to be acquainted with through some external sources - internet and/or books),
b) Equipment I need to keep the thing in top-notch shape,
c) Any extra equipment that'd allow me to open up new ways to film (such as lenses, tripod, etc...),
d) Anything else that I should know about.
Greatly appreciated if you could help me out.

seriously considering the Canon HF100!
Anyone has it?
I know we've got artistic people here that dabble in this medium. Please help!

| Originally posted by Sushipunk I don't know much about video stuff. We've got an old Sony Digital 8 cam, but we picked up a wide angle lens for it, which is pretty cool I guess. Good for more panoramic sort of stuff. Edit: I can't imagine lenses for a HD cam being cheap though :/ |

step one: press the power button on.
you're looking at it the wrong way
what exactly are you trying to accomplish??
It's like someone getting a computer and asking well ... what can I do with it?!
Learn to hold the thing steady by holding it with the palm of your hand from underneath might be the first thing ( then again everyone has their technic to hold cams steady )
Otherwise seriously mate .... tell us your application and maybe we'll offer suggestions.
Just get a decent bag maybe an extra battery or two for now and don't bother with extra accessories unless you specifically need them ( like a tripod, wide angle lens etc ).
Best thing to do is just use the damn thing and learn all the functions in the manual ( YES LEARN THE TERM AND WHAT THEY MEAN EXACTLY! )
Use it as much as possible.
With time it might become an extension of yourself and then perhaps you'll get to the point where perhaps you get something nice out of it.
There's no rules set in stone. I know that for me with any piece of technical equipment it's only by using it to the max that I get used to it and can fully exploit all the possibilities.
Also beware of recording modes quality modes etc especially during export to the computer. If you aren't careful you may very well get utter crap out of your camera.
