Review: Markus Schulz @ Muse2, Shanghai on 28.06
Nachdem ich letztes Wochenende bei Markus Schulz war und Menno im September im selben Club auflegt, habe ich ein Review fr ihn per Mail verfasst und an ihn geschickt. Ich kopier mal die relevanten Stellen hier rein fr euch:
Here is my promised review from Markus Schulz @ Muse2 last weekend here in Shanghai. To make a long story short: It was a great night!
About the club:
Muse2 is very modern club that is located inside a shopping mall. The club itself is round shaped (like most clubs in China) towards the DJ. The DJ is only slightly above the crowd and Markus could shake a few hands during his show by simply reaching over the mixer. My biggest fear before going there was, that it would be one of these clubs that overdo it with "bottle service" table. Some clubs have such a lot of tables grouped around the dance floor that there is not much dance floor left for the crowd and thus no party atmosphere. Aparently the chinese think "the more tables - the more money" At Muse2 they also have the bottle service tables but not that maney and the dance floor is big and supports a good crowd, with the last two meters before the DJ being a small elevated dance floor. The ceiling is very high and (as always) the chinese have invested a lot into light, so expect to see some good light effect, even though no lasers. The sound system was very loud but also very clear. I had no "ringing" in my ears after leaving the club even though Markus really turned up the volume and the bass.
About Markus:
(I`ll keep that one short since you`re probably mostly interested in the club setting for your gig in September). I really like going to his events because he is a really good showman. He basically gave the crowd the feeling that they are the best crowd and that he was also very enthusiastic about the tunes he played. He gives the people that feeling that he plays this great tune for the first time especially for them, even though he played it for more than a year (e.g. that remix / mash up of that Ronsik Speed tune "The space we are" or something like that - you know which tune I mean). That`s what I call a profesional and I really appreciate that. No need to say that his mixing was - as always - flawless (pure CD set). Very good song selection - typical Markus style set. The only thing I don`t like about his sets is, that he always really slows it don towards the end of his set, even if there are DJs playing after him. He did that for the last half hour of his 3-3,5 hour set and took out so much energy that people didn`t really get back into their "energy mode" until way into the set of the next DJ. Sometimes he should simply keep up the energy till the end of his set and hand over an euphoric crowd to the next DJ.
All in all I enjyoed myself very much - Shanghai seems to be a kind of hotspot at the moment. We have at least two top international DJs here per month, with G+ and Muse2 leading the way on the trance side. There are also some very nice "underground" clubs like Shelter, Dragon Club etc. that feature innovative electronic music... One more thing: Promotion for Markus was very heavy. He had an ad in the english newspaper in Shanghai every day for almost four weeks, the last couple of days he even had a full page ad. He was also featured on the most influencal nightlife sites in Shanghai (smartshanghai and cityweekend) - club was packed and I talked to some chinese and expats if they knew Markus and a lot had simply gone because he was advertised as "#13 Dj in the world" which references to the DJ Mag top 100 list

Das Thema Promotion ist hier noch eher unterentwickelt und beschrnkt sich auf krftig die Trommel rhren 4 Wochen vor dem Event... |
