The Best Horror Movie

IMO john carpeners 'the thing' is the best horror ever made. top quality cast, amazing effects, no shitty CGI, amazing soundtrack, quality storyline, great ending.. and above all, its as scary as hell.

the trailer rocks too.

anyone else got any they think are better?

Amityville Horror II: The Possession.

aside from some of the bad acting, it's very creepy to watch alone during the night.

not the best one, though; that i'm not too sure about.

The Descent & The Crudge 1 are a must see.

Haven't seen this one yet, but the trailer looks promising.

Off the top of my head, here are some other horror movies I like:

Event Horizon

"Where we're going, you don't need eyes to see."

Uzumaki

The Shining

Best trailer ever, by the way.

Eraserhead

Peter Jackson's "Braindead"

So. Fucking. Awesome.

Edit: Meat187: Event Horizon isn't really horror, though right? More like twisted sci-fi?

I see what you mean, but I think it would be pointless to try and draw a clear line between all the genres. It's scary as hell, so I call it horror.
One could also argue that Braindead is more of a gore comedy or whatever.

Yeah, good point. Event Horizon totally freaked me out when I saw it first.

But, you can't get better C-grade horror than Braindead

the original george a romero movies.

night of the living, dawn of, day of dead....the remakes really sucked other than dawn.

it is amazing what they did with so little to create gore.

not really horro, but i am really partial to della morte della morte aka cemetary man.

i will also add the original excorsist and rosmary's baby.

new horror flicks suck..cgi has ruined them.

I agree. I think The Thing is bloody amazing. The shining really scared me as well.

In recent times, The Orphanage (El Orfonato) blows anything else out of the water.

You guys NEED to check it out.
