Posted by geroin on Jul-03-2008 05:47:

easily Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up

Posted by mnemonic. on Jul-03-2008 05:51:

i think all of them here are classics, and i know which is my favorite, but the one most people will know, and for that reason, why i think its the "biggest classic" is probably smack my bitch up by prodigy

(my fav being Papua New Guinea by FSOL)

It's tough, but I'd have to say "smack" is the classic of classics up there.

PS the Thillseekers Bootleg is just ever so fucking dope.

Prodigy hands down

Really? B/c I hear a helluvalot more Born Slippy to this day than Prodigy ... ergo, would that not dictate it's position of size in the pantheon of edm classics out there?

Posted by zoogla on Jul-03-2008 13:59:

ergo my ass Prodigy pwns j00.

Posted by yankeeBaby on Jul-03-2008 15:35:

Prodigy. Even people who listen to country music and hip hop know the words to Smack My Bitch Up.

One of my fav tunes

opened alot of eyes, helped alot of people get into the scene...robert miles work stands out to me as bringing the same effect in that era...solid

LOVE the prodigy and chem bros tracks but Born Slippy EASILY! No other song comes close...

Another cool nomination would be Da Funk.

Posted by FunkyCrew on Jul-03-2008 16:18:

Born Slippy is/was only so well know because of the movie it was a soundtrack to

I still think Prodigy by far is a much more well known track

Posted by Axer on Jul-03-2008 18:11:

Chase ma bitch up...smack my bitch up... the video got banned from MTV. Check out the C Hoff Remix!

Hey Boy Hey Girl, I think it's from the mid 90's

Same.
Nevertheless, Prodigy kicks ass and I've listened to them since elementary school lol.

Underworld - Born Slippy

It gets my vote because even non-EDM fans know it and it's received wider airplay on radio, in clubs, etc. for a longer period of time than any of the other options. That it was on the soundtrack to one of the most popular movies of it's time (Trainspotting) among a certain demographic doesn't hurt too.

In terms of 'classic' from an EDM fan and history standpoint, I'd vote for Papua New Guinea though.

Speaking of hey boy, hey girl.. I think I was visiting Poland (elementary school again) when I first saw the vid.. didn't see or hear it much when I came back here

Underworld - Born Slippy... by faaaaaaaaar!
This is THE TUNE that got me in the scene years ago, and it DOES get more airplay. I heard it in Cuba for god's sakes!

You do realize that originally Trainspotting was set to an entirely all Underworld score & soundtrack, and it was the band that recommended to the producers to expand the soundtrack.

Also, without the people that were brought to the scene by Born Slippy, Prodigy would have likely stayed the England-only phenomenon as it was only after Born Slippy that people even listened to Firestarter which paved the way for the widespread success of Smack My Bitch Up. Not to mention Breathe. Naturally they were all released over here on the same album, but Firestarter was a single for them a year prior to the release of Fat of the Land.

Also, in terms of early edm Rez/Cowgirl provided the groundwork in the late 80's to establish the genre as something beyond acid house and Madchester. In terms of a legacy Underwold has done more for the whole genre than Prodigy overall. Now I'm not knocking Prodigy as I have owned all their albums & singles in order as they were released over the years & Music for the Jilted Generation is still something to behold, but in terms of the paramters layed out in the poll this is all a non factor lol.

Bottom line, watch a dancefloor go nuts to Born Slippy and tell me it's not "teh monstar" lol.
