Something you should know about your tires
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897
This is news to me, luckily I got my tires from high turn-over rate distribution centers; tires are 1 yr old
*2307*
for those who don't want to watch the video:
the tires some retailers have on clearance sales may be more than 10 years old. Tires at that age are hazardous, even if they have good thread and have never been used before.
Don't buy tires from places that keep the tires outsides or directly exposed to the sun and check the date on them before you buy.....the date should consist of 4 numbers: first 2 digits are the week of the year the tire was made, last 2 are the year...so *1007* would say that the tire was made in the 10th week of '07..or 0308 3rd week of '08.
Pre 2000: there are only 3 digits 2 for the week and one for the year.
If you have 3 digits on your tires, you should change your tires like yesterday or peel them on the asphalt.
Thought I'd share.
Cheers,
Al.
I always check the dates on tyres, but I have never seen them more than 3 yrs old in clearance sales. Sounds like the media blowing up a relatively rare (but dramatic) issue once again.
I'm going to be needing new tires soon, gotta start researching. Yay.
thx for the info!
