Koodo Mobile

I need a new cell and am thinking of subscribing to this service.

http://www.koodomobile.com/

It's got some pretty sweet plans, no system access fee, no contract, and other cool features.

Does anyone have it or know anyone who does?

I have a Koodo phone and have been happy with it. There are no hidden fees at all. Plans start at as little as $15 per mth and all you pay on top of that is pst/gst. Koodo will also let you put up to $150 on a "tab" when you buy a phone and they deduct 10% of your monthly bill and put it towards your tab. Hope that helps...

My mom is here for the summer and needed a phone.

I got her the cheapest ($75) Koodo phone at Best Buy and then activated it online (no activation if online).

We were able to pick the number and area code (she is in Collingwood for the summer, so she got a local area code to Collingwood and her number is only made up of 2 digits which makes it easy for her to remember).

Koodo uses TELUS's network so it is pretty good (TELUS has great call quality and area coverage) - even up in Collingwood.

My mom mostly uses the phone to call home out West and call me in the city - so I got her the 100/min daytime w/ free evenings & weekends, evenings after 5 PM, unlimited incoming and unlimited North America long distance. It comes to around $70 per month with tax and tip. All billing and management is done online - no paper bills and detailed billing is provided free.

This is her first cell phone and so far she is loving it. When she goes back home we'll just deactivate it until she comes back in the winter or spring.

Overall the setup was painless, the quality is great and the overal pricing is incredible for no contract, no 911 fee, no system access fee.

If I wasn't in a contract and didn't have a Blackberry I would use Koodo - the prices are just too good (they are like pre-pay prices, but without the shitty $0.30/minute rate that pre-pay requires).

Another clear example of why I think the SAF and 911 charges are simply a cost of doing business by the wireless providers. Don't try and make it seem like it's some sort of 'government' fee downloaded on the consumer. Add it to the cost of the plans for a more accurate representation of how much consumers should expect to pay for something.

Koodo is taking the right approach by being transparent with their fees and have even gone as far as using the 'no-SAF' as a marketing tool to attract customers. So 'Koodos' to them..

My buddy is using it. So far I haven't heard any complaints from him. Only thing I noticed is the degraded sound quality when talking to him, but its nothing to cry over.
