Give me business ideas

Here are my ideas so far...

1. Build a couple computers and sell them.
2. Start a "services broker" business. The idea is a client would contact me to ask for the best possible company to fulfill their service need. Say they need a computer repair shop. I would find the computer repair company with the lowest possible price, make a deal with them to cut the profit, and connect the client to the shop. This would require a lot of cold calling, and business negotiating, but I think I'm up for it.
3. Start a portfolio consulting firm. The idea is to offer my stock analysis services to any business or client where I would analyze their investment holdings, and advise them as the quality and valuation of each holding.

Other ideas if I had more then $2000...

1. Internet cafe
2. Real estate
3. Hedge fund

$2000 isn't a lot of money, but it's something. My big problem right now is obtaining capital. The banks sure aren't going to give any money to someone like me. One other alternative is joining the Air Force for a few years, saving money, and obtain capital that way. By the time I get out, I'de have enough money to so big things.

Any ideas people?

From COR lol:

1. Good luck you'd need to do it through ebay and that's unbelievably competitive.

2. Possible, but 99% of companies have existing contracts for this. And/or approved vendor lists that they always goto. But if you could get yourself on one of those lists and be a "misc" supplier for all the weird crap that companies need but can't get from one place then could work.

3. Why would anyone give you an unproven person their money to invest?

But $2000 would after paying for registration of your company etc etc (which any real company would require to even consider paying you) would not leave a lot. That said the "catch all" services broker thing could work because it would appeal to lazy procurement workers.

Poker. You might wanna get a good coach and you have to study alot.
It's not for everyone tho but the money is good.

As for the computer business, I hope you don't live in texas!

Have you tried applying for entry level assistant jobs at local places like Scottrade, etc? That would be a good start for you. They may require at least a 2 year degree in finance to do anything involving client money though, so you may want to just get a job (or two!) to help you pay for a few semesters of community college to study finance and get a degree. Waiters in expensive restaurants can easily clear $20+ an hour after taxes, and you can probably make $15/hr with tips tossing pizzas on weekends...not bad at all. If you want money you'll need to work your ass off for a while. There is no free ride. I realize these aren't dream jobs, but you'll need to sweat a bit for a couple years to save some cash and finish up your education. By the time you are finished, you'll have some more money in your pocket, an official education in the business, and a bunch more credibility when it comes to your passion (stocks). You can also use the time between work and study to refine and backtest your models, so when it comes to getting hired at a big company, you'll have a degree and a nice portfolio of work to show off.

Also, try to keep things good between you and your parents as long as possible. Living under their roof will allow you to save money exponentially fast once you are working 50-60 hours a week. Keep expenses down and you'll have $2k in no time.

If you are asking for business advice you are never going to succeed in as a business owner.

Posted by Fir3start3r on Jul-06-2008 23:16:

You may be looking at this from the wrong angle...

The questions you should be asking yourself are:

1) What do I like to do and
2) What am I good at?

If you can answer those and find a niche demand, you should be set.

Oh yea, contact, contact, contact! Networking is your friend...

Good luck!

That would certainly restore confidence in the dollar and bring in tons of foreign investment. The USA as the only country on the planet with real value backing it's currency...hellz yeah! We'll be in for a 50 year boom if we do it

I disagree. THIS one is much better...incredibly simple yet effective advice:

i have them both, they're both great, how to wind friends especially if you want to be a good salesman. Think and Grow Rich is more about creating the life you imagine, it just boggles my mind that Napoleon Hill wrote about Sex Transmutation 70 years ago. ive read that the original version is different to the current one because the publishes edited a lot Napoleon Hill talked about on Fermenting a Revolution.

You can read it online here:

No margins, labor intensive. Unless you can build a better mousetrap than the Michael Dells of the world you'll never break even.

I don't know how you get your edge, but maybe you do. I'd be concerned with a little thing that just came out called the Internet. I'm not sure if you guys have heard of it, but there is a wealth of information out there for anyone with 5 minutes and a keyboard. And it's not just for porn anymore either!

If you're good and you can break into some clients to get them to use you, you can make a shitload of money doing this. But you'd better be good, have something proprietary and be consistent and responsive to your clients. If they see you adding value, they won't mind paying you for your services. As an example, we pay a boutique research firm $75K/year for their services. They publish several reports daily and are generally very accurate information that you just can't get of equal quality from the bulge-bracket sell-side shops. It's basically a one person show, and $75K/year isn't even considered that expensive in this business for a lot of people (especially when it's just a soft dollar expense). Imagine a couple hundred clients paying $75k/year... The only knock of course is that you have no experience or professional track record to help you advertise your services so it might be heard to break into.

How old are you again?

you need to build a reputation. The easiest way to do it is by education. While there are certainly other ways, an MBA doesn't hurt. Go to school and let business ideas flow naturally.

21..

I pretty much gave up on option 1 and 2. Option 3 would be called Quest Analytics, LLC. My dilemna is as you said, credentials. I will have to think hard about how I can get some sort of credentials fast.

At 21 you're probably better off at least trying to work for some sort of larger organization to get some experience and general business understanding before you go it alone. You have a good idea to work on, develop, and keep in your back pocket until you're ready to hatch it. Don't lose sight of it, but it might be a good idea to have a longer-term plan to get to the point where you do your own thing. Starting from scratch at 21 is definitely a helluva a risky and challenging thing to do. But that's just my opinion. To each his own.

Yea, I'm probably going to call all the mutual fund companies in the area, and see if they are hiring. If not, I'll move on to investment securities and stuff. Just looking thru' the phone book, really.

Start a bloodbank in Africa - it would be marketed to wealthy tourists, etc. "What would happen if you needed a blood transfusion in a continent 30% infected with HIV?" Racist as all get-out, but with tourism increasing in sub-Saharan Africa, it could be lucrative. Eventually the upper class of Africans may invest in blood and plasma reserves as well, but until then you'd be going to hell for it.

I'm guessing that very few people need surgery while on vacation and actually have surgery while at the holiday location.
