I just spoke to Kala. She says she wasn't actually asking for the software. She wanted to know if anyone had it because her boyfriend wants to upgrade from Serato and wanted some opinions. I guess the the point of the thread was misinterpreted. She asked me to post this because she is suspended and said she did not have a chance to explain herself.

traktors the way to go ha

Posted by klnyc on Jul-08-2008 20:43:

you can't mix with mixedinkey its used to analyze your music so you can sort it according to key. It helps a dj to play harmonic sets with no sound clashes.. Its a great tool.

can anyone recommend beginner dj equipment lol (i know i'm in the wrong thread - might as well ask though). Budget is realistically... $1000-$2000 total right now. By xmas this might get higher *crosses fingers for that bonus...*

I'd go with (2) CDJ-800's, and a DJM-400. If you don't mind buying used/from Ebay, you can get the whole setup for $1300-$1500.

the hot thing right now are the CDJ-400s..i think $650 each..thats $1300 (the cost for 1 CDJ) and then u can get a nice pioneer 2 channel mixer or even a 4 ch like frank said..the DJM 500 or 600

If you wanna learn about Traktor come to Rhode Kill and meet the master..We got Mike Henderson coming to play for us. Mike has just toured with Nic Fanciulli, teaching him how to use it. He's coming to play for us just before He goes on tour with Dubfire, where He'll be teaching Dubfire how to use it..

i use mixmeister to key and tempo my tracks, i like it cause you can just load your whole library in it and it analyzes em all and stores it. you can sort by all the fields as well.

MixedInKey is ok. Rapid Evolution is ok too. They both basically analyze your mp3's and give you key and tempo information so its easier to find songs that go together. Doesn't always work and I find it limiting...as in, it makes me work with a smaller set of tracks and makes me try and do longer transitions that are needed. So I gave it up.

rapid evolution is the free alternative to mixedinkey.

Speaking of dubfire..i hear he uses mixedinkey. At least thats what it says on the mixinkey site.

true, but doesn't limit you that much. you can use one up, one down, 3rds,5ths,7ths up or down, the same key, or a switch from a minor to a 3rd down major/major to 3rd up minor.

harmonic mixing doesn't really limit your mixing, it should do the opposite actually. It allows for you to be more creative with your mixes, and not just mix intros and outros like so many djs do now. I haven't tried this software though. I key my tracks by ear the old fashion way.
