Quivver @ XO Lounge / Houston / 8-8-08

I'll definitely be hitting this one up.

For the past 15 years, John Graham has been at the forefront of the dance music scene. Perhaps youll know him better through his numerous alter egos including Quivver, Space Manoeuvres, Stoneproof, Skanna, and Tilt, as each of these projects produced numerous hit singles and had a heavy hand in shaping global dance music. Now, fresh off a recent move from his native UK to Los Angeles, Graham resurfaces in July with his monstrous debut Quivver album, Dirty Nails And Vapour Trails.
While its true that Graham in his many forms has long been associated with the progressive house genre, Dirty Nails And Vapour Trails travels down many different paths. Whereas recent Beatport and Juno chart topping single Surin offers a classic 4/4 progressive vibe, the remarkable drum n bass sizzle of Chasin A Feelin is making jaws drop worldwide. Yes, you read that right this is a gorgeous pure drum n bass track, a hark back to his original Skanna sound. The track is so hot right now that Sasha was playing it one out all around WMC and is currently finishing most of his delta heavy tour shows with it (in addition to other CD tracks including Tick Tick and 2 Notes N A Beat . Pete Tong dropped it for the first time on April 11 edition of The Essential Selection on BBC Radio One.
I've always listened to and have been influenced by a lot of different stuff and I think it's sad that the scene is so divided these days. It's like there's a new genre every other week and people jump on that bandwagon until the next one comes along and forget where they came from. I also wanted the album to be something people could really listen to and that would still be relevant in a few years so I didn't want to do a bunch of 4 to the floor bangin' club tracks - that's what mix comps are for, Graham says
A multidimensional artist, Graham is known not only for his cache of hot productions, but also for his dynamic singing voice. Graham starred as a feature voice on Hybrids fantastic 2006 artist CD I Choose Noise and lays down each vocal on Dirty Nails And Vapour Trails. Its simply one of those voices that finds a way to work like magic whether applied to progressive house, drum n bass and even a haunting spaced out breaks track like Ghosts.
In 2003, Graham founded his own label Boz Boz recordings which is still going strong today and provides a comfy independent home for Dirty Nails And Vapour Trails. In addition to releasing hits as a producer (Tilts top 20 hit Invisible comes to mind), Graham is also an accomplished DJ who in 2001 became a resident DJ at Twilo and is currently ranked 43 in the world by the dj list out of 200,000 djs worldwide. while also showcasing his skills on an entry in the Tranceport mix CD series.
Dirty Nails And Vapour Trails is released July 08 on Boz Boz Recordings.

i agree, i just got back from Austin for the fourth. I cant comprehend taking another roadtrip right now. i dont think i can recruit anyone either. If i cant find anyone to carpool with I can fly in cheaper than i can drive, but then i have to deal with all the taxis and hotels. Thats where the trip gets too pricy. I guess we will see.

FLYER UPDATED!!

John Graham's song in the new upcoming LIONSGATE Film "The Spirit"
http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809838857/video/8831867/

On July 19, 2006, The Hollywood Reporter reported that comic book writer/artist Frank Miller would write and direct the feature film The Spirit[8], previously announced as a project in 2004.[9][10] The trade magazine reported the production company would be Odd Lot Entertainment, with executive producers including Batfilm Productions' Michael Uslan, Benjamin Melniker, and Steven Maier, and producers to include Odd Lot's Linda McDonough and Batfilm's F.J. DeSanto. Miller later confirmed this.[11] The film, starring Gabriel Macht as the Spirit and Samuel L. Jackson as his enemy the Octopus, is scheduled for release by Lionsgate on December 25, 2008.

I can't tell from the trailer if the movie is going to be one those that is entertaining if you take it for what it is, or if it's going to be just plain stupid.

Of course, I feel the same way about Dirk.

Good point Steve. I thought Sin City was pretty good, and the graphics were insane (black'n'white, yellow blood, etc...) and this movie here looks like its sorta follows that idea. It's the same producer, too. I wouldn't wait in some long line at the theatres to see it.

I thought it looked a little like Sim City. Now that I know it's from the same producer, I'll pass. That movie sucked. You're right, the graphics were really cool. The story line just sucked though. Too bad. It has a great cast of actors.
