Hello! To all you photographers out there.....

I'm getting a new camera 4 my b-day (sunday) and i just had a few questions.....

I'm lookin for just a point and shoot, something around 8 megapixels. Just a good camera to take with me to clubs or whereever.

I've always had canons but noticed they are not real good in low light.... what cameras are?

is sony still crap?

i'm thinkin of maybe going with an olympus or nikon .... any thoughts?

oh and i'm not lookin to spend more then 300

any suggestions?

I don't consider myself a photographer but I feel cannon is great brand to use. I couldn't be happier with my Cannon sd-750

well that may have to do with the noise that comes with increased ISOs as well as holding the camera steady. the canon ultracompacts these days have f2.8 aperture built right in, which def helps with lowlight situations...

if u are looking for a camera that takes GOOD lowlight pictures consistently, read reviews of certain Fuji compact cameras, they are known to be sharper at higher isos than other cameras (i almost bought one awhile back because of this). Cons: Most Fuji models use a xD card which is of a different format than the regular SD card that most automatic cameras use. And i think as good as they are in lowlight, they kinda fall short in other areas.

Or consider the Panasonic Lumix series in particular the TZ3 or L1/2 (i *think* i recall a TA on here who was using that and the pics/videos were really good quality.) 10x optical zoom and the lens is larger than average which makes me think it would be great in lowlight. Panasonic Lumix cameras definitely do take awesome videos but i think they use .mov format which take up more space on a memory card (BUT it does translate to very good quality)

(btw there may be more models on the market, this is just based on what i read up on maybe 1-2yrs ago). i stopped reading once i switched to a dSLR.

Drew has a 870IS which he has been very happy with.

SONY is great for videos but the picture quality seems to diminish with time...after awhile pictures come out blurry (maybe the sensor gets knocked loose or something) and no one knows why. its happened more than once to ppl i talk to, so it cant be just coincidence.

Not a photographer but I use a Kodak 6 MP and have been for about 2 years and it takes great videos (clear and sound is great) and some pretty good shots too. Not sure how the others compare though.

not sure what canon you're talking about but both of my old powershot's were pretty damn good in low light. i swear by that camera. i don't know much about the point n shoot cams out but you can't go wrong with a powershot. only downfall is that they are not that small.

Kodak's take good audio in clubs that don't sound distorted and has a lot of other great features and is very easy to use.
