Don't mind that I'm partial to vocal. These aren't nearly as poppy as they are good trance, imho. Enjoy...

Oh yeah i know the genre,

its "Altrance"

Posted by leebates1986 on Jul-10-2008 01:37:

ok thanks for sharing that

Interesting. I've never heard it called altrance before. I know some people have tried to compare some of that type to eurodance, which makes me want to bust out some Diana Fox or Kate Ryan...

Truth is that the current forum is more "EDM-Addict" in then broader sense rather than trance. It is confusing and the moderators should have changed the forum's name until now, but they are lazy.

But even for a "Trance forum" most of the posted videos are very "poppy", and for "poppy" i mean bad-pop, not the Depeche Mode kind. Whatever floats your boat though

I've heard a few decent melodic EDM pieces from squarepusher (do you know squarepusher owns btw) and from venetian snares and aphex twin...but not a hell of alot. Most of it is seems pretty limited to listening only when on some hardcore drugs. *duck*

This is the best EDM I've heard.

Posted by Lester on Jul-10-2008 03:16:

sigh I mean IDM

Posted by PETRAN on Jul-10-2008 03:48:

Yeah, by EDM ("Electronic Dance Music")i mean an umbrella term that includes everything, e.g house, techno, trance etc. What i wanted to say is that the current forum now has a lot of people that listen to various forms of house and techno (and yes IDM) not just trance.

As for IDM there are some very noisy things (like Squarepusher) but there are also some very nice more melodic downtempo ones. Try Orbital's "In Sides" and Autechre's "Amber" albums.

But there are many more, Apparat, Arovane, Bola and Boards of Canada are a few that come to mind.

Here are a few examples of good melodic IDM or IDM-influenced electronic music.

Apparat - "Fractales 1 and 2"

Lights Out Asia- "Four Square" (fusion of IDM and post-rock)

Bola - "Pae Paoe"

Proem - "Blue Northern"

Port-Royal - "Anya: Sehnsucht"

Orbital - "Are We Here"

Since we're recommending "good melodic IDM"...

Hope this shattered the image of Squarepusher as a noisy musician.

And since when is "In Sides" considered IDM? Last time I checked it was breakbeat. Did something happen in the meantime?
