Posted by breakdown on Mar-23-2001 22:58:

there is a genre = mainstream trance..
but there will always be non mainstream trance..
maybe in a 100000 years time.. u'll get old grannies listenin to like the equivalent of Tony Walker - Field of Joy... but other than that.. no..

Posted by eXos on Mar-24-2001 00:08:

Do you mean, they aren't aware of its existence?

Or people don't understand its meaning? Because that's bullshit. It's just music. Beeps and boops, sorry.

most people think of trance as "DOOF DOOF" in other words they think its all hardstyle or hard trance....and other people think its all shit like dj sammy and ian van dahl. fucken disgraceful..

true trance (some prog, psy, goa, tech, etc.) will never become mainstream imo, its too different and not instantly appealing compared to electrohouse and all the crap they play on the radio these days.

Every genre of music has it's less popular sub-genres. In order to bring something into the mainstream, you have to doll it up. You can't play minimal and expect an entire population to go ape shit over it. You should be thanking DJ Sammy and Ian Van Dahl for getting this genre into public light, because once "Heaven" and "Castles in the sky" hit radio stations, you have a good part of their listeners searching "Trance" on Google, which will indefinitely expand their knowledge of what "Good" trance is. Hell, i bet 50% of the people on here joined because they heard "Heaven, "Castles in the sky", "Sandstorm", and "Starry Eyed Surprise"(Not trance, but search Oakenfold on Google, and you'll get trance)

It's not right to bash mainstream, and it looks stupid when someone does.

Posted by trancepunkk on Jan-22-2007 06:55:

the reason i hate it is because not all "mainstream" people like it. in fact its still quite a small percentage and it gives the huge percentage of people who dont like those songs an even worse impression of trance. all it does really is create a huge slur of people who listen to just asot lists who then think they are experts on the topic all of the sudden...

and dolling up trance ruins wat makes it so great for listeners who love it so much just the way it is. so no its not stupid to bag it but it does have a few pluses i guess..

Posted by fmodena369 on Jan-22-2007 08:01:

would u even want trance to become mainstream in america? I'd lean towards no

Actually, psy and goa here are way more popular than uplifting trance. In fact, if you say "trance" around here, people are more inclined to think of Infected Mushroom, Astrix, GMS and Astral Projection than, let's say, Lasgo, Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren.

Posted by trancepunkk on Jan-22-2007 12:27:

oh ok. well u still wont be seeing "man with no name" tracks in the top 20 charts now will u? (thats not a rhetorical question) i cant imagine that happening lol but epic trance and all that sorta stuff i think already has on many occasions (not necessarily everywhere though).
