How do you organise your stuff?
CORe version is in bold
The reason why I'm posting this thread should be obvious: My organisation skills suck more than an Ethiopian kid, inside a black hole created by the Large Hadron Collider, trying to get the last slurp of choc chip milkshake through a clogged straw. Unless my English failed on me, it should be quite easy to understand the power of its suction. It's a gargantuan colossus, capable of sucking into oblivion most of my time, my computer files and even my socks (if only Google could be used in real life, heh). Thus, I decided to humbly turn to the CORe for halp!
How do you organise your stuff? Do you have any hints and tips to share?
I throw away as much as possible so I can justify not organising it and still finding the stuff I need.
I stuff everything I probably won't need very often into drawers, and leave the few things that I need regularly out in the open.

I don't really organize stuff. If you don't let people bother you about it, then it's not that bad
by category.
by color and scent.
What stuff are we organizing? Personal, work, or both?

There's a place for everything, and everything in it's place.

It's common sense really. Books on the bookshelf, shoes on the shoe rack, clothes in the closet, etc., etc.
I clean out my wardrobe every season and get rid of anything I haven't worn in a year, and store out of season clothes away. I repeat this process every spring/winter.
Pretty much all my bills are electronic, but I always deal with mail/bills as soon as I get it/them.
I hate clutter and don't keep anything I don't need. I deal with messes as soon as they're made.
I dunno...I don't really understand what's to hard about being organized.
I don't organize my stuff. It's auto-organized. When I need something it is almost always at the top of the heap.

Yeah, who'd a thunk it?
In all seriousness tho. I am very anal about this kind of stuff. Everything in my apartment, car and office is very organized except for the infamous "junk drawer". I am almost certain everyone has one of those lol
I never have a problem finding anything because I group things with like items of it's kind. I don't leave stuff around. Bathroom stuff stays in the bathroom, kitchen stuff stays in the kitchen etc. Then it gets divided by drawers and cabinets. Sock drawer, underwear drawer, dish cabinet, silverware drawer.....
As for computer files it's pretty much like this:
Music -> then by genre
Docs -> then by file types (ie: reports, forms, work)
Pics -> in subfolder's by the event or occassion
Videos -> type of video (ie: porn, concert, etc)
Programs -> (no subfolders)
I do not have a junk drawer.

lol @ Project-k
Oh, I live by myself, so no one really bothers me about it, JP, it's just that I feel I need to use my time better, and my flat always looks like it was hit by a tornado.
And maybe I was too vague, so I'll make myself more clear, Jenny. I know what bookshelves and closets are for, but I feel I waste too much time when I sort things. Specially because, as both Brian and Project-K said, the stuff I don't use often is inside drawers and wardrobes, where it belongs. But, I feel that I may be doing something wrong with the stuff I use more regularly, and thought I could learn one thing or another from you guys. The same for computer files - I wonder if any of you has a smarter way of sorting them.

| Originally posted by jennypie Sounds like you just have too much stuff then. Time to pare back your shit, son. I think most people's problem when it comes to being tidy/organized is keeping shit they don't actually need or use. If you haven't picked it up in a year, get rid of it. |
