Benefits of expensive cartridges

the package i am about to buy comes with some cheap Ortofon OM-ProS carts. What are the advantages of paying for example 100+ for cartridges? Does it help preserve ur vinyl? Improve Sound quality? etc. How long do cartridges usually last?

As well as this could u recommend me a good Cartridge.

peace

mikey

all your friends will think you are cool.

just kidding..

better carts sound better, and wear out your vinyl less.

and the concorde style ones are super easy to mount, pickup, and see. I don't like the OM style ones.

I got some stanton trackmasters, i love em.

Shure M44G's... the famed M447 converted to a tranceaddicts dream..

how shure describes them->
"Revived exactly the same as the original, this companion to the M44-7 provides an ideal balance between skip resistance and accuracy of sound reproduction for entertainment purposes.
The M44G is a versatile performance needle, appropriate for both intensive scratching and mixing."

I'd agree, they sound good, they just dont skip, and as much as ive slammed them around like a newbie, they are not broke yet.

if you go with them, make sure ya put the little extra weight in the headshell (they come with the M44Gs) - they really do help... and slip on the small extra (auxiliary) weight behind the main tonearm balance weight (you'll need to add that if your on a tech 1200)

i run them at one gram tracking force, and it sounds just fine .. I like the idea of low tracking forces, vynil wear is a bad thing..

your mixing will automatically become god-like....

if its more expensive doesn't always means its better

honestly, i think alot of DJs plop down the money for the ortofons just because of how they look... the all metal headshell / cartridge.. i mean, it does add a nice look to a set of 1200's

but just too much $$ if you ask me... one is more than both my cartridges..
