audio/video-philes....

now that I upgraded my TV, I need to upgrade my home theater system (seeing as how its almost 10 years old lol)

Anyone here got any reccomendations on a good reciever?

I'm looking to go 7.1 and have been eyeing this pioneer elite

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/P...ivers/VSX-92TXH

But I've also heard good things about Harmon Kardon.

Anyone got any reccomendations or already own one? Thanks.

I think this one would be reasonably priced. It's also a Pioneer.

You can't go wrong with Denon for a good receiver. Look into Energy for your speakers. It'll cost a couple Large, but it's worth it.

For the Squares:

Large = Thousand

Those look nice but I'm wanting to ceiling mount or do inset into my wall

wait a month, get the denon 2809 or 3809 when they come out.

For speakers, either 7 MartinLogan Helos 100s & an Abyss, or 4 Helos for rears, an Abyss, and 3 Passages for the fronts. If your studs are too close to fit a passage horizontally, just put a Fresco or Matinee on the wall for the center, instead.

I've had the sm450s (http://www.definitivetech.com/louds...diomonitor.html) on my desktop for a while. I finally got the amp I ordered for them. So much better.

just for the record, I like a lot of their stuff, but deftech's power & frequency ratings are completely full of shit. 20Hz out of a Prosub 800? No. Way. In. Hell.

Nice, what is the amp you're powering them with? You're probably right about that 8" sub not performing as low as 20Hz too. A friend of mine has a pair of the BP7006 bipolar supertowers - they sound incredible. I'm thinking of getting a pair, though possibly the BP7004s. A powered 10" sub in each tower... come to think of it, his towers with 8" subs can certainly handle a mean rumble with nothing but finesse. Think Sunn O)))

Man I really got to put you in touch with my dad on this one, all he does is play with the stock market and upgrade his giant living room system.

They're on a Pioneer Elite A-35R now. Awesome, considering it's only 200 bucks. High distortion, but it's got a ton of power and is 4 ohm stable, so that .3% doesn't even come close to having an impact at normal levels on a desk.

And some 8" subs can do 20Hz, but that Prosub 800 is an absolutely horrible piece of equipment. The day that a Prosub can match something like this is the day I chop my ears off.
