Cubase 4 vs Logic Studio
I'm trying to suss out if anyone here has used both cubase 4 and logic studio???
I've been using Logic now since 1993 and just love it! But as the emagic sale to apple happened a year beforehand, it left me stuck on version 5.5 on a pc. There's no way in the world that i can afford a mac right now or anywhere in the next 12 - 18 months or so. (Just about to buy a house AND get married!). It really sucks because i had somewhat been waiting for years for a suitable price drop in Logic and now that it has happened i can't afford the new computer. I'm doing just fine i suppose on Logic 5.5 as is, although i feel i'm falling behind in technology and software capabilities in regards to some fairly standard features these days like time stretching for example.
I'm considering converting to cubase 4 for a few reasons:
- i would not have to buy a whole new computer
- i believe the layout and look of cubase is somewhat similar to logic (don't like the sequencing ideas i've seen in albeton and reason)
- cubase has got really good and reliable online support
- cubase 4 has had excellent reviews in regards to value for money and power
Has anyone had much experience with Logic Studio (or previous versions of logic) and also cubase 4 (or even SX)? I'm looking for some valuable advice and opionions on the differences and similarities bewtween the two programs. This is a big deal for me and i want to make sure i'm making the right decision.
I used to use Cubase 3/4 then switched to Logic. Functionally, there isn't a whole lot of difference between the two.
Logic has better software instruments & effects right out of the box. Gems such as the ES2 synth, EVOC 20, ES88 (electric piano), and Sculpture are outstanding. Logic Space Designer is one of the best sounding convolution reverb plugins I have ever heard. The GUI layout of the new Logic 8 is second to none in my opinion, especially if you are working with a single monitor. Logic has had native sidechaining for a while now, where as Cubase just added it recently.
Cubase has better audio editing facilities than Logic. The software instruments in Cubase 3 were pretty lacking, but in Cubase 4 they made some pretty major improvements to both the software instruments and the effects. Native sidechaining is now available in Cubase 4 via the VST3 spec and the new spec allows plugins to not consume any CPU when they are not actively processing audio. Pretty Cool.
All in all, it depends on your situation. Since you are choosing between Logic and Cubase, then if you do not want to buy a new Mac then you really can only go with Cubase. Also, do not forget to consider other PC sequencers, such as FL Studio or Sonar. Personally I still think Cubase is the best sequencer available on the PC market for EDM, but that's just my personal opinion.
If the platform thing were not a problem, then I'd choose Logic any day of the week, but I'm biased.
Build a hackintosh, just finished mine with a total cost of $800.
did u succee installing tiger on it?
Leopard 10.5.1 inital install then updated to 10.5.4
Ok, outside of the idea of what Logic Studio is like, what significant changes will i experience going from Logic 5.5 to Cubase 4? This is what will really matter because i think in reality this is the step that will more than likely happen.
