Funk House

I really like funk house music. However, I've been spending all my time listening to house/techno/trance. I was wondering if you could recommend some quality funk house tunes/djs/sets. Thank you.

Agent 86 - Hot Now.

Might be a bit hard to find, but it's a great tune.

Agent 86 is one of the best things Australia has ever produced.

I suggest listening to some of those sets from 2005-2006. Both the '05 & '06 Budapest sets are out of this world.

Luke fair isn't a bad start either

Funk house? Whats the difference between that and breakbeat?

???

Wait, wait, by "funk house" we mean the good old traditional mainstream "funky house" right (like Junior Jack, David Morales and Daft Punk)? So, it has NOTHING to do with breakbeat or whatsoever...

Toby Tobias - Space Shuffle
Thread about it here
Rune Lindbaek - Klubb Kebabb
Rune Lindbaek - N-Disko

I find it a bit hard to distinguish between funk and disco, but these contains abit of everything i guess..

there are so many awesome perc lines for sampling in these type of tracks.

Thats not house mate. Funk yes, house, no.

Posted by elFreak on Jul-16-2008 18:27:

please show me what you think of when you want to define funk house.

Posted by stevsto on Jul-16-2008 21:09:

ive never heard the term "funk house", ive only heard of "funky house". the stuff on strictly ryhthm and the one mattsanity posted for example. the one elfreak posted is just disco. you ask anyone on the street what elfreak posted and they will say disco.

Posted by Lebezniatnikov on Jul-16-2008 21:57:

I guess I think more along the lines of what Luke Fair plays:

Check out his JJJ set or one of Myra's (lucid) sets in the DJ Promotions forum (I recommend Summer Romance).

Its amazing how many people in here still confuse stuff. Probably beatport is to blame with the mislabels? I don't know...

Anyway,

1) Funk-House: Imaginary genre, doesn't exist, previous samples are just Funk.

2) Funky-House (also known and as "Disco-House"): The usual mainstream house which usually contains samples/riffs from Funk and Disco (and soulful vocals, although vocals are not agood index of genre because the majority of deep house tracks have soulful vocals as well). Simple as that!

FUNKY HOUSE

1)Hypnotic is not a genre. I've added it to describe the tune (doh). Deep/tech, they are used together because they describe the same spectrum of a sound, that of deep jazzy chords, moody pads, and at times tribal drumming. Deep house is the slower, more "full" loungey sound whereas "tech" house is a more upbeat, stripped-down dirtier version. The track you posted is a classic deep/tech house track. Sharam (which was known to play the deeper and techier sides of house) of deep dish, and Dubfire were associated with it (and remixed it). the current track when it is NOT categorised as "house", it is categorised as "deep house" in Discogs. The actual track is techy deep house, it is obvious and no one agreed on it being "Funky house" except for yourself.

2) Chris Liebing himself used the word "Schranz" to describe his sound in an interview which i clearly remember and i'm not lying about it. "Industrial Techno" is an imaginary genre. You can also see that in the series called "THE REAL SCHRANZ" by Chris Liebing

3) Check my samples on what "funky house" is and don't bother me with your stupid as fuck noobism anymore.

Posted by nefardec on Jul-17-2008 03:02:

mattsanity, listen to my mix 'timeless' for deep/tech house (not entirely though), also my sig mix has some in the middle

or my newest track:

trust me there is a such thing as techy deep house, and it has a name:

thomas melchior (check out melchior productions - coming up)

also move d (check out move d- AC1D)

listen to kevin yost - hypnotic progressions

then get back to me

and lmao @ industrial techno an imaginary genre. quit the side stepping man. you decided to get at me for something I was right about. those discog pages labeling it deep house are completely inaccurate and you're taking the word from a matter of ignorant people who submitted those releases.

Lolz, ok ma nigga. But, yo, remember that ignorance is bliss but stupidity isn't dog.
