Power-generating dance floor hits UK club
Now here is a way to save some serious energy...wonder how much the Guv can generate every weekend...enough for it to go "off the grid" perhaps?

Believe it or not, this actually isn't the first power-generating dance floor to harness some of the pent up energy of club-goers, but it is apparently the first one to hit the UK, and hopefully a sign of more to come. As you can see above, the dance floor makes use of a piezoelectric system that produces electricity as the dancers jump up and down, which charges some batteries that are used to power parts of the club. While that's certainly a practical application for the technology, we're guessing it's only a matter of time before some enterprising club owner combines one of these with an LED dance floor to create a dance floor that powers itself, and thumbs its nose at other do-gooder clubs.
main story from here http://www.inhabitat.com/2008/07/16...irst-eco-disco/
the guv could build it's own power plant if charles wanted to. glowsticks would be used nuclear rods.
heck it could be like this inside.

THIS MUST BE DONE!!!!
bring back the lit dancefloor plz.

Wasn't there another thread about this awhile ago? I remember reading about it...unless this is updated news.
About time a club implements this system. Malls in Japan have had them for a couple of years now, why not clubs?
But, there is no way you could generate enough electricicty to power the sound equipment, the lighting, and all the other equipment in the club. it's a good supplemental system, but no way they could go 'off grid'.
The average nightclub uses 150 times the amount of power that a residential house uses. Nightclubs use a lot of water as well with the toilets constantly flushing, sinks going, and dishwashers too.
In Rotterdam where the first energy-generating dance floor was created they used a sweat-capturing system that extracts moisture from the air and uses the water obtained to flush toilets. No more KH rains?? LOL

Haha, love the idea as well, but just keep in mind that the energy has to come from somewhere. In this case, the dancers. Depending on how much they're trying to recoup, you could end up getting a *lot* more tired from a night out at the club than you're used to. Awesome for exercise if thats what you're going for but the Guidos might not like the new sweat stains they'd get...
What about the part of the dancefloor where too many sketchy ppl barely move? Twitching doesn't count for power generation you know. Does this mean the others have to dance harder to make up for them or risk the DJ from getting booted?
