The Dark Knight Movie Review

OMG! Just got home from watching the movie. And all I gotta say is wow!

Storyline was really well written.

Heath Ledger portrayed a really amazing villain/Joker. Give him an Oscar! Truly an amazing actor and you can see it in this role.

There was really no complaints about the movie except that it was kinda long. Running at 2 hours and 32 minutes I believe.

But it's a must watch.

**My discussion contains spoilers...read carefully and don't bitch if I ruin it for you. You read it, so it's your fault! (bitches!)**
I also saw a (surprisingly not sold out) midnight showing.

This movie is fucking epic. It's not perfect, but easily the best "comic book" movie I've seen. I wish I was in the age range of about seven to thirteen right now, because I would have been absolutely blown away by this movie, as well as Batman Begins. Now I don't have any imagination any more and films do not strike me in the same way, but The Dark Knight is so well done that you have to salute the creators.

It is superbly written, directed and acted. Ledger is great along with everyone else, but the writing and clever dialogue really stood out. The movie is a bit long and the Harvey Dent climax feels rushed, but as far a summer entertainment, this is as good as it's going to get.

There are still some things I don't like...the batmobile, the way the hand to hand fighting is shot and edited, the fact that it's obviously Chicago, the overly silly mcgruffin batman voice that bale puts on, the fact that about a million people know who Batman really is, etc...but these are nit picky things.

I'm sure after a few more viewings, this will probably rank among one of my favourite "action drama" movies of all time.

Oh, and I like the way the creators have set the tone for the sequel (Batman being hunted, etc) but I'm at a loss as to how they can top Ledger's Joker and the tragedy of Harvey Dent/Rachel Dawes. There is so much negative shit going on here, the next sequel looks to get way darker. But with what villains? The Riddler I always found a little silly, as well as the Penguin, etc.

Just came back from seeing it - had to see it IMAX style b/c some of the major actions sequences were shot with IMAX cameras so we got the 3am show at Scotiabank Theater downtown.
UNBELIEVABLE! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT!
Heath Ledger OWNS the role of Joker now, anyone who tries to say that Jack was better is not playing with a full deck (maybe the Jokers were taken out? LOL)
Loved the plot, loved the action, going to definitely see it again soon!!!
Totally worth it to wait till 3AM to see it and to pay the extra money to see it in IMAX imho.

SPOILER WARNING - SPOILER BELOW IN BLACK TEXT HIGHLIGHT TO SEE!!!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Loved how they did the Harvey Dent story as well. However, I must point out a negative. Didn't like that Batman killed Harvey even though it was saving the little Gordon. Batman doesn't kill. Would have been much better if Gordon had pulled out a gun and shot him as Batman rushed the kid or if he had fallen onto an object that impaled him with a relatively short drop making it completely an accident and not a 'choice' that Batman had to make (boy or Dent)...then again as I rethink it, maybe it was because Batman knew that Dent was so much more valuable as a hero image for Gotham to change for the better so he sacrificed his moral code so he had to die but I am still not happy/comfortable with the idea.
Anyone notice that the boy Gordon looked a lot like the little kid in the Narrows from the first movie? Are they the same kid? Was that supposed to be Gordon's kid in the first one???

HIGHLIGHT TO SEE TEXT ABOVE...CONTAINS SPOILER INFO

probably the greatest American picture made.
1. the dark knight
2. the grapes of wrath
3. citizen kane
4. there will be blood
5. the godfather

but i have a strong feeling that chris nolan will not jump on the band wagon for a third batman. it could be like the godfather or spiderman trilogy all over again where the third movie just blows. its a lot of pressure on a director when he every picture he does is critically acclaimed and then theres one film that just fucks it up.
or i might be wrong and nolan might turn out to be the next Hitchcock or Kubrick and pull it off.

im juss sayin'

My only complaint about the Batman Begins was I thought Christian Bale's 'angry voice' when he was in Batman mode sounded really forced and basically outright retarded and laughable....

has he switched it up for this one? it really didnt sound genuine in Batman Begins...

Seen it at midnight:05, the 5 or 6 screens were all sold out in Laval, I can't even imagine the mayhem downtown.

This is film is amazing but with some little holes, its ok though, need to watch it again to tie everything up.

SPOILER:

So the Joker won, he attained all of his objectives and he's alive, Batman is now the outcast. So surely there will be a third one to set things straight... plus that little man who wanted to divulge Batman's identity looks to me like a Robin?!?!?! am I wrong or am I imagining stuff...

Suffice it to say that I saw it last night at midnight and I'll e seeing it again today at 6:30.

Some movies don't live up to the hype but in this case, the hype didnt live up to the movie. The directing, the script, the plot and the acting; not just from Ledger, but from EVERYONE was superb. I was hugely impressed with Aaron Eckert. It was such a clever plot with twists and turns I could barely keep up. If anything there was TOO much going on. Only other small comlaint was that the effects were a little overdone- I like Batman because he's a real dude with no superpowers, so the tricks were a little much, but it was a small detail.

As for Ledger, he scared the shit out me frankly. He was TOTALLY sadistic... if they showed gore in this movie I'd say he'd be up there with Lecter. One of the best peices of acting I've ever seen- he's a show in for an Oscar and I saw the entire movie deserves best picture. It's bar none the best comic book movie I've seen and as far as I can think of, the best action movie I've seen too.

These reviews make me sooo excited to see this movie. Sunday can't come soon enough. I wanna see it at an IMAX theatre though

I wanna see this movie so bad, but I don't know if you can beat Jack Nicholson as the Joker?

Watching the original one with Michael Keaton right now, that one is a classic.

HAHAHA urban_legend my friend talk to us after you see the Dark Knight - arguing that Nicholson was the better Joker is like arguing that the sun isn't going to be rising in the morning. Ledger OWNED that role. Nicholson's Joker can't even be compared to Ledger's Joker, Ledger took the Joker to a completely different level went up a couple more levels looked down at Nicholson's Joker and pissed on him.
See the movie then talk to us.
No doubt Batman from 1989 was a classic though - doesn't compare though to this rebooted series...the reboot is just a trillion billion times better imho (and most everyone else's)

Saw it in IMAX tonight at Collosus, friggin busy and had to wait an hour before getting in, but wow!!! what a presentation, totally sets film to a new level.

89 Batman will always be a classic to me, no matter what. Dark Knight was in a class of its own though. First 10 mins are so great, it just starts off so cold, but so well too. Bale was great as Bruce Wayne but agreed his dialogue as Batman was kinda weak. When he did the action, it was great. Aaron Eckhart as Dent was great...I would say more but I won't, just heads down and very insane path.

Heath...damnit...thank you for doing this! you made every frame with you watchable, just proves you were going to be one of the great ones. Someone of our age bracket to be one of the best remembered actors for his talents. I am a bit mixed up with emotion with it right now, but he definately was amazing. Purely psychotic the things he did, a truly great actor that will be missed. You went out on top.

Overall a great movie, all shows at the theater for 6 theaters, including the IMAX all sold out. Midnight showings set a new record, 18 mill, beating out Revenge of the sith for best midnight screenings. Can't wait to get the weekend figures on Sunday afternoon.

And that's an understatement. Nicholson got nothing on Ledger for this role. Even when you hear Joker talk with that tongue smacking and his eyes, it's enough to creep you.

ledger breathes life into the joker. insane, hilarious and haunting.

Can't even remember the last movie I saw which can even come close.

"You complete me"

All I can say for now is "wow". I haven't seen a movie that great in a LONG time.

I had never seen anything like this, an opening night for the ages. People all clapped at the end of the movie. 3rd time ever I have been in that type of audience. Also everyone waited for Heath's name to appear.
