BPMs for Songs
Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum and to DJing. I was wondering if any of you know of any good sites that have an archive of BPMs for songs. I don't have a beat counter, and I just feel that doing it manually is just too time consuming.
Thanks for your help
Davidus
The only advice I can give you is to not use BPM to beatmatch. The best way to learn is to practice! If you use BPM counter, or if you write bpm on your vinyls,.... when you will not have counter or when you will play in a club or something else, you will be totally disappointed! So try to learn without that =)

Yeah, i've been told not to use a beat counter for matching, but i just want to get an idea of what BPM my songs are running at. Pretty much all i need is the fastest way to get BPMs for my vinyl without having to count them out manually.
you can turn your PC into a bpm counter:

or

should work.
BPM counters will cause HUGE stress
Take it from someone who started out 6 months ago trying to use BPM counters etc....PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE. Rather suffer for a couple months and get frustrated when you playing shit and learn to cope without BPM counters.DJ'ing I believe (tho still a novice) is a skill combining technical expertise with other intuitive things (how to read a crowd, track selection etc.) There is no better feeling than 2 master the art and spin in front of a crowd that have come to here you give them the night of their lives..I guarentee that if you use BPM counters you will come seriously unstuck..They are not always accurate and if you dont have the skills correct a mix running slighty out of sync without the crowd really noticing u gonna look like a monkey and feel even worse.
NOTHING WORTHWHILE IS EVER EASY TO ACHIEVE..IF IT WAS,EVERYBODY WOULD BE DOING IT,AND DOING IT WELL...(and wouldnt be getting paid $5000 a set in the process lol)

I wasn't planning on using the beat counter to beat match while i'm mixing. I actually just wanted to get the BPMs for labelling purposes. But, thanks for the advice. Being a beginner, i'll need all the info i can get
yea, don't worry about BPM, just practice, practice, practice...
BPM is nothing that really ever comes into play when i mix... it's more of a nice to know, not a need to know
yea, best way is to just practice and practice, if you use a bpm counter or write the bpms on the vinyls, it is much easier in the beginnning, but later it could be harder, cuz if you are playing without your equipment and maybe with someone elses records, you could be fucked
late
ps, like anything, frustration will come with mixing, i was frustrated in teh beginning too, and when i started skateboarding, i was really frustrated cuz that shit is hard, even to learn a kickflip, so just pracitce practice practice and you will get it
good luck
i wouldn't write the bpm's on your vinyl...
honestly after practicing for a little whiel you'll be able to roughly tell the bpm of any track by ear (give or take 1 beat)
bloody cheat, sorry like, u dont mix with bpms if u wanna b a proper dj full stop. learn 2 do it by yourself with skill, and obviously seeing as you don't have the time, quit while your ahead
yeh man, learning to be a dj IS time consuming!
It took me monsth to learn how to beat match!
Indeed ... BPM's are for super lazzy people ..and i don't think it works ... there are 100000 beats out there... you can match with the beat counter but .. if it doesn't sound good your fried
It's hard to learn, takes time to learn, maybe it's even impossible 4 ya but in the end it's worth it
just to show you guys the other side, I have been writing BPMs on my vinyls for 10 years now and I don't do it for beatmatching (which doesn't work anyway).
BUT, I have always played very fast (pitch at +8%) and that's the reason for the BPMs. Say I'm playing some "Servant Of Light - Exhale" at +8 and search for a new record. I want to play "Voodoo & Serano - Blood Is Pumping". Normally you would take the record, put it on the platter, take your headphone, adjust the pitch a little and THEN find out you can't make it fast enough. Bring the record back, search for another one. Start all over.
That is time consuming and doesn't happen to me, cause I know that "Blood Is Pumping" runs at 137 bpm and won't go as fast as I need it.
that's the whole reason for me to use BPMs on the vinyl. Now go ahead and bash me for that!
well if you werent an accomplished DJ I might consider bashing you..
but you are good, and im not. so you can do whatever the hell you want. Hell cue a record w/ your nose..just get the mix right
