djing live???

djing using traktor and have been getting good feedback on mixs... if i mix out at a party or club.... would it be wise to invest in a xone 2d so i get midi and soundcard in one..... cau you cant dj off the soundcard in macbookpro?????

Posted by jupiterone on Jul-18-2008 20:32:

xone 2d is a bad investment

just buy an external soundcard and a midi controller like the uc-33

and plus the uc-33 has a lot more knobs/faders for you to assign midi to

i have one. For the price of it alongside a crappy Hercules DJ controller, i'd pick the total control over it any day. I could care less about the soundcard in the hercules module.

but as for the total control, every parameter is assignable. I have it running alongside my E-Mu Xboard49 usb midi keyboard in traktor and i could basically do what i want to do with it.

i use traktor, with a vestax vci 100, does the job i find

he's right though!

although for the price their sound quality is high, it's just the build quality that licks balls

me personally wouldn't spend my money on nothing newmark, but the idea of a soundcard and the uc-33 sounds good

I just can't get my head around the fact that people are taking the piss on numark.. Like Behringer never existed. Iv owned 2 numark mixers and the DJX700 .. And the only good thing about that mixer was the day it broke during a party and i got refunded for the damages to my equipment during the party and picked up a nice little Pioneer DJM

So you've never owned a mixer other than a Numark or Behringer (besides the DJM)?

Once you try a Vestax, Rane or Allen & Heath, you will realise what complete cheap toys the aforementioned are in comparison.

Also, a lot of people like Pioneer mixers, but I find them completely gash. I'm not sure how the DJM 600 ever made it's way into so many clubs. Besides the faders coming loose and bleeding like shit, the sound quality is also mediocre to say the least.

The 800 and the 1000 are ok, but everything else is yuck.

Why can't you guys just swallow your stupid pride? Not everything that isn't Pioneer and A&H is complete garbage. Get over yourselves! It's like half of you are employed by one of these two industry leaders to go and spread garbage about all their competitors.

Posted by elFreak on Jul-19-2008 17:09:

lol i love seeing people get angry when they can't admit their gear is shit.

Posted by nemesis8722 on Jul-19-2008 17:14:

Maybe other brands aren't the best out there, but that doesn't mean they're good for nobody.

ha! ......

i wish.

Correct Beat, Never owned anything else except the behringer and Numark mixers.. And id choose to go back to the numark mixer/Behringer but i needed the 4 channels.

I would probably agree with you that A&H and Vestax etc are far better compared to what iv so far got my hands on but since iv never touched such mixers i wont be able to comment any further.. All of my gear atm is Pioneer.. And for the bargain prices i got it all for it was worth it (bar the wait times having some of it shipped from StoreDJ in Melbourne or whatever).

Now all i want is MIDI control.. Cmonnnnn Tax Refund baby..Show me the money! Show me the money!

I would never personally buy Numark, Behringer, Gemini, Citronic or KAM for DJing purposes, when worked hard it shortens the life considerably.
Behringer do make some ok compressors and limiters though but that's their studio line.

However,
It's all down to the budget that someone has to work with (i.e. how much cash they can make available at any one time)and to be fair, even the most basic of mixers can teach someone the standard skills they need to have.

The thing that outshines the cheaper brands with the high end stuff is durability and sound quality. That said, sound quality wise you are only going to sound as good as your cheapest piece of gear, it's all links in the chain. A lot of people have very nice mixers but suffer due to crap monitors, amps or even soundcards thesedays.

With the high end stuff, it lasts and has a much better resale value/desirability.

It's not rocket science. But even if you did just want to buy some cheap gear, it's all you need to get started and most of the skills are transferable to club installations. The difficulty could be if you are going to play live and have your sound card built in to your mixer which means you would have to take that along and work off that.

Foor for thought.

Cheers
Nem
