+1, rubbish mix. It could have either went the interesting route with unreleased goodies and untypical Deadmau5 productions, or everything that hit the beatport top 10 chart. Sadly, it went down the latter.

I also don't understand why he had to touch "The Sky Was Pink", what happened there?

Posted by IpLaYWiTLiGhTs on Jul-19-2008 04:27:

not surprised...

did he do anything special inbetween tracks or was it the normal bass swap routine?

Posted by narcism on Jul-19-2008 04:44:

geez and ppl bag out ferry for playing his own productions

Posted by kadomony on Jul-19-2008 04:45:

i just noticed there's some old Deadmau5 stuff that got put up on beatport

Get Scraped album
good stuff, full of melodic chillout, breaks, dnb

At first, I thought the tracklisting was a joke...but it's not

It's almost a self-parody, and I hope it is, considering how over-the-top it is in the most obvious respects.

Posted by LoveHate on Jul-19-2008 07:19:

i enjoyed it.

but then again i enjoy all of mau5s work.

i also did think he was going to go on a different route though and suprise us with some other shit,

Posted by LoveHate on Jul-19-2008 07:21:

leger still holds the top spot this year.

Posted by Stanza on Jul-19-2008 08:30:

lol @ LoveHates's sig

Spot on there brother !

Posted by Hubris on Jul-19-2008 08:37:

That's past the edge of comical into the realm of "holy shit"

What was really funny was, BBC radio posted the full TL half way into the broadcast. That usually never happens, it takes them a couple of days.

i guess their would be a lot of pressure if he tried to make a set, without his tracks, and alot of critisism on alternate track selection. and his sound, is uniquely different.

Guess he's saying Joel's taste in music sucks too badly for him to do a set with anything other than his shithouse tracks. Not my words, but the words I put into stevo's mouth.

I'm sure there would be some expectation to include some of his own productions, but not to flood the entire set with them!

...as for an alternate track selection, I'm pretty sure he doesn't put forth sets similar to his EM on a weekly basis, and from what I gather, people seem to respond pretty well to them (for one reason or another).

I would have been much more interested in seeing something to that end, but if nothing else, this EM provides a useful sampler of Deadmau5 productions that may be worth picking up.

Posted by stevo_0 on Jul-19-2008 11:01:

i dont really follow his sets or mixing to be honest, but since the EM is highly popular and listened too.. he could have got scared and not made something new and different.. rather just put his own tracks and gone a safe road.

i guess i been listening to too many of the old EM mixes. i dont really know what im talking about any more.. haha. forget

you guys are giving this too much thought, seriously

Posted by _IDS_ on Jul-19-2008 13:19:

lol someone can say to Deadmau5 if he has a problem to find record shop, he can buy some music on beatport...

"Essential Mix" oh yeah it was an essential selection.

So go on beatport, and look at the chart of tiesto...

Posted by Guest on Jul-19-2008 13:20:

that's the worst tracklisting I've ever seen. Its a disgrace to Essential Mix's name.

Posted by chesco on Jul-19-2008 13:31:

This is a new low for essential mixes, and my opinion of the show was already way down there.

Clearly zero effort has gone in to creating this mix, it should be an honour to be asked to do a slot on the essential mix, a pinnacle in a dj's career if you will, and as such there should be effort put into creating a mix, it should not used as an excuse to showcase only your own music.

Deadmau5!

(waiting for Pavlovian responses)

Posted by thechronic on Jul-19-2008 14:57:

That tracklist is fcking hilarious. Made me throw up in my mouth a little.

Posted by MichaelBoogerd! on Jul-19-2008 15:01:

Despite the hilarity, seriously, this is what he plays live.
