Hot Distortion VST?

Howdy, everyone. Anyone here have any recommendations on a distortion VST that really adds a nice touch of edginess to a synth? I currently use Antares Tube, but it muddles the lower frequencies and doesn't provide enough sharpness. Either useful recommendations and/or advice would be appreciated. Thanks, guys.

Hi

Theres a re fairly new one from D16 that's getting a lot of attention and good comments.

http://www.d16.pl/index.php?menu=183

It's quite cheap to and if the quality of their other products is anything to go by then should be good.

Have you tried sticking the Antares Tube on a send whilst putting a high pass filter on the send also, could maybe stop the muddying of the low end?

That is actually quite a brilliant idea! Why I did not think of that, is another concern of mine! ;-) Thank you.

Looks expensive, but I appreciate the input!

The sample files sound pretty solid especially the last one. I will research this some more. Thank you!

This one sounds pretty good from the example files. I might pursue this one. Thank you.

Both CamelSpace and CamelPhat can do some pretty interesting things to sound including distortion so give them a look as well. Good luck!

The Kombinat plugin was mentioned together with the D16 one in Computer Music as one of the better ones. Still have to try them myself though

Yes, that is actually how I heard about Kombinat, I read CM every month. I have not actually used this plug yet but, the feature list looks real sweet. D16's I have used, and I actually quite like it but, the Kombinat I really want, since it has bitcrusher and many other types built in. I like that it is like a swiss army knife for distortion.

yes, +1
CamelPhat is my distortion of choice.

Also worth mentioning is the fruity Fast Dist, if you are using FL studio. Its super simple but also super effective.

I love this:

It's free here: http://www.uv.es/%7Eruizcan/p_beta.htm

Just keep the distortion levels low, and tweak the rest of the setting to get that "slight" crunch that is to kill for.

this is free and i use it all the time:

and if you're looking for a very advanced distortion unit check this:
