What the fuck is that?

Posted by on Jul-23-2008 18:20:

The synopsis actually looks quite interesting. When I get a spare 79 minutes, I'll watch.

Posted by Darkarbiter on Jul-23-2008 18:30:

I remember the first time I tried watching it (I heard it had an x-dream song in it) I totally freaked out after 2 minutes. It's basically just a really deep/trippey movie about... well I dunno finding yourself etc. Despite the title its not really that music focused (but awesome tracks and placing however). I'm very happy I spent 80 minutes on it. Anyway yeh... as with trippey stuff its sometimes a bit mind melting/boring (not quite right word... just don't look at it logically) if your all tired and jaded but with the right mindset its awesome.

Cool, I'll give it whirl, but if i find something better to do, like twiddle my thumbs, I'll leave it for another time.

movie was wack imo skipped through it.

GET THE FUCK OUT

sorry its 4am and I have a bad headache

Posted by nefardec on Jul-23-2008 18:49:

just trying to save some people their time.

if you have trouble with the opposite sex, don't like people very much, feel that you are more gifted and intelligent and phiopsophical than all those 'average people', listen to goapsy mostly, like the movie 'waking life', and 'what the bleep do we know', and a good night out consists of getting high and talking about how amazing it feels when you can hug the universe, then you might like this

Posted by Darkarbiter on Jul-23-2008 18:55:

whats walking life like?

Posted by nefardec on Jul-23-2008 19:09:

i actually like waking life, but it's in a similar vein. i just think the writing is better and the animation really helps separate it from reality.

i guess you could argue that this film you posted is more surreal in that regard but...

quote:
Dreams. What are they? An escape from reality or reality itself? Waking Life follows the dream(s) of one man and his attempt to find and discern the absolute difference between waking life and the dreamworld. While trying to figure out a way to wake up, he runs into many people on his way; some of which offer one sentence asides on life, others delving deeply into existential questions and life's mysteries. We become the main character. It becomes our dream and our questions being asked and answered. Can we control our dreams? What are they telling us about life? About death? About ourselves and where we come from and where we are going? The film does not answer all these for us. Instead, it inspires us to ask the questions and find the answers ourselves.

---------------

This is the story of a boy who has a dream that he can float, but unless he holds on, he will drift away into the sky. Even when he is grown up, this idea recurs. After a strange accident, he walks through what may be a dream, flowing in and out of scenarios and encountering various characters. People he meets discuss science, philosophy and the life of dreaming and waking, and the protagonist gradually becomes alarmed that he cannot awake from this confusing dream adventure.

The track in the beginning is X-Dream - Psychomachine. You might like some of the last tracks on The Delta - Scizoeffective, although it's very dark.

I've known some people who've been to goa. It's really marvelous, a shame it's getting destroyed by this shit though.

Posted by Darkarbiter on Jul-23-2008 19:25:

What does that have to do with your qoute? and yeh I was suprised how many of the songs I recognised. In particular... I was really suprised by the classical mushroom songs which actually fitted in really well. I'm gonna think about none of this is real quite differently now. Does anyone know if this ever came out on dvd?

Posted by Meat187 on Jul-23-2008 19:26:

I'd rather watch a Hugh Grant movie.

Posted by nefardec on Jul-23-2008 19:26:

most of those tracks would be awesome without that clicky kick drum and all the un-tiss percussion, rolloffs and hollywood style sfx

just that pulsing bass, some dark pads, and ocasional ambient samples and that stuff is money

oh wait, it sounds like i'm talking about trance music

Posted by Skov on Jul-23-2008 19:37:

Yeah, I definitely know what you mean nefardec. I don't listen to that stuff often, and I almost never listen to a track from start to end. I really like the atmosphere in most of the songs though.

Posted by Darkarbiter on Jul-24-2008 06:01:

Well I've never taken drugs but I still really like trippey music . Mainstream trance is all very nice, but it seems that basically everything labelled under it seems to suck. Get me some 7-9 minute mainstream trance with some really good breaks and atmosphere and I'll change my mind. I buy gatecrasher classics and then find out thats basically all the good songs under trance on a mere 3 (or 2 since last one is prog house) cds! Psy isn't exactly great on average quality but theres still some really excellent stuff. I'm not really concerned by differences in bassline (theres good and bad stuff in trance, psy and goa) or percussion etc but as skov said... the atmospheres are simply amazing as well as far more interesting synths (and the depth imo).

I really do like classic trance though. some of that stuff is so dreamy (as well as the melodic techno that sounds like it). It's not I don't like mainstream trance its just no one seems to make any decent stuff of it. I used to not like the too trippey stuff but I gradually got used to it, only stuff like psychaos-keyboard window melts my mind (and not when I'm in a good mood) tbh. I guess its just something you acquire a taste for. Come for the kewl synths and melodies and say for the trippeyness

[edit] @ the person below me: Right... so I'm jaded if I prefer one genre(or sub genre) to another? When I say classic trance I don't mean 1997 trance I mean 1995 (and even then some of the stuff back then was more modern) and before. I.e. nearly a different genre to goa/mainstream. Maybe not quite as different as acid house and house but still fairly different. How is it jaded to believe something old is better? I mean I never even listen to any trance (a little classic trance when I was little maybe) before 2 years ago so its not even nostalgic.

Anyway yeh its not about comedowns/acne

Posted by Cetra on Jul-24-2008 06:09:

You're a jaded **** if you think old trance is somehow 'better', it's just different to what it is now.

I am keen on this movie, but not if it's about some guy dealing with acne and comedowns
