is IMAX really that important?
i've never been to one, but my friend wants to go see batman in IMAX (again, he's already seen it in imax), but the tickets are sold out on friday and i'd rather go on then.
Its worth it. Regular movies are all ready expensive might as well get the best viewing. There are only a few movies a year worth seeing on IMAX. Batman is one of them. I saw 300 on IMAX and it was totally worth it. Im trying to see Batman next weekend on IMAX when I get back from my trip. Hopefully it wont be as crowded. I sit at the very top middle.
The difference between IMAX and normal cinema is the same as the difference between normal cinema and watching a movie on a small screen in your lounge room.
most IMAX movies (at museums or whatever) are pointless crap derived to make you sick from helicopter fly over scenes.
went to see batman today and it was totally sold out.
oh, and Dark Knight is the first feature actually filmed with IMAX stock, most are just blown up to the incredible screen size. thats why ima wait til there are tix available|
I want to see it in imax. The only thing I've ever seen in imax are shite documentaries about palm trees and dying stars, and the last time I went was like a decade ago. I'm interested in seeing what they've done since then.
imax shots were awesome for the rooftop shots. the scenes are noticeable as they use the ENTIRE height of the screen. for non-imax scenes, the movie goes back to regular letterbox format.
Yes, it is.
u2
/awesome
totally worth it
went and saw u2 in 3d the other week, was awesome
and the chairs are so much more comfy in those places
Matrix Reloaded was actually half decent on IMAX too

not worth it. Just go to a theater with digital projectors, same fee as normal projector theaters and it's clear as hell.
So there is a double in ticket price with IMAX, but not a double in quality.
manhattan has ONE imax theater and needless to say everything is soldout that i would be able to see for the next week. i think i'm going to wait until i can see it on imax though

My buddy is in the industry, and said that IMAX is lower quality than any fully digital film because it is shot in analog and then must be processed into digital.
Also, as previously mentioned, only a few shots were shot in IMAX. Most of the movie was shot in regular 16:9 or Anamorphic.

| Originally posted by gehzumteufel It has been shown that IMAX improves nothing on regular movies. Size is not everything. Just like with digital cameras, the number of megapixels doesn't mean better. You can have a 6mp dslr take better photos than a 20mp point and shoot. Why? Because the quality of each pixel in the 6mp is better than the 20. As they say, Bigger is not always better. The grass is not always greener on the other side. What has a clearer picture, 1080i or 720p? |

| Originally posted by trunks1022 i know when i was watching it - and the way that christopher nolan described his intentions when filming in imax during a talk i attended last week - i was watching more for the complete scope of a scene rather than picture quality. in certain scenes, the imax frame emphasizes the enormity of the situation, eg. the hong kong building scene and the ensuing fight scene; the joker's head out of the cop car; alfred doing what he did with rachel's thing (if you watch the movie you'll know what i mean). i don't think nolan intended to use the imax cameras to show the boogers coming out of heath's nose. |
i dont know about you but i would rather have a huge ugly cock than a tiny pretty one.

IMAX is sure as hell the best format for conveying the sheer size of something as it captures the size of something VERY well. Again this is for standard movies, not the movies that IMAX usually shows, like March of the Penguins. |

| Originally posted by trunks1022 word. i think too much is being talked about picture quality; in reality, nolan just wanted to use it to show big stuff and show it could be done for feature films, not just documentaries. |
