ENJOY! :hi:
Four years after British DJ Sasha redefined the DJ mix compilation with Involver, hes finally ready to release its follow up Invol2ver.
The release of Involver in 2004 defined Sashas evolution from vinyl to digital and reconfirmed his position as one of the worlds greatest DJs.
Word has it that the anticipation for Involver 2 has been so intense, that false tracklistings, fake audio torrents and even doctored artwork have appeared online in the build up to the release, so desperate were Sashas fans for the 2nd edition.
Was the wait worth it?
Well, Invol2ver contains 13 tracks of unique Sasha reworkings including regurgitated versions of Radioheads Thom Yorke, American folkster Ray LaMontagne, Apparat, Ladytron and Sasha favourites M83, which sounds good.
Plus Sasha produced three original songs for Invol2ver, plus it contains a number of tunes from his label emFire.
If anything, Invol2ver is more of an artist album than a mix compilation, and Sasha went a lot further than most DJs in producing it.
Sasha and his studio partners Barry Jamieson, Charlie May, Duncan Forbes and Leo Leite hunted down every piece of old analogue equipment that they could get their hands on to create a lo-fi gritty sound.
In every way, Invol2ver is closer to a production album than anything else, said Sasha.
We were like kids in a toy shop basically, hunting out as many old mixing desks, drum machines and guitar pedals that we could find on eBay.
Barry Jamieson continued, Its like a collage of New York sounds. Old gear is so unpredictable and it had a mind of its own, this album was very spontaneous in that way.
Of the unique tracklist, Sasha said Im a really big fan of Apparat.
As soon as I heard Arcadia, I knew I had to do this for Invol2ver.
Sasha also totally deconstructed Ladytrons Destroy Everything You Touch using this amazing circuit bent drum machine.
You program a beat and random stuff starts to happen - you get amazing accidents, so the sound of this was born out of that machine. said Sasha of the special tool.
Sasha also spoke about how he put the records together.
We were playing around with a remix for Thom Yorke and we realized it was in the same key as the M83 track.
So we ended up just melting the two things together. I was playing out a bootleg remix of Eraser and somebody put it on YouTube and Thom posted it on Radioheads website which was a real buzz.
So I just asked if he was up for me doing a proper remix of it, and he was like, Yeah, of course. That was a great honour. Im a massive Radiohead fan.
)Invol2ver is set for release on September 8th on Global Underground.

involver 2 thread #3 lol
i'll say what i've said before about involver 2- i loved the first one, thought it was absolute genius, and i am disappointed with the tracklist of involver 2 because of the charlie may/sasha whoring. sasha's own material voids the whole concept behind the involver "series" (if that's what you want to call it).
still interested in hearing the telefon tel aviv remix, but i have a feeling that the productions on this release are going to be the typical style of techno that he seems to be caning atm. it'd be nice to see another dark, downtempo-style album ala the original involver. "talk amongst yourselves" ftw
edit: listened to the two samples on that myspace player thingie.. meh. reminds me of his recent emfire productions. decent but forgettable.
Sasha done fell off.
honestly besides couple tracks i really want to hear,
i think its going to be nothing like the first one - Charlie May was behind the involver project and thats why the first one sounded soooooo goood. Mr.Coe's production stuff altho advanced technically are mehh..
- Sasha is a great DJ but since he started playing with Ableton -- ummm yeah well lets just say i would stick to records if i were him...

i almost posted another thread for this the other day. this kind of reminds of holdens balance 005 and at the controls. there is no way possible to live up to the hype and honestly i'm going into this with low expectations. you can buy rones tune flesh on beatport. its a great track, rones my boy and I have been rocken his shit for a while now. the track list doesn't look bad but all the sasha tracks kind of make me weary.
regardless i will be patiently waiting for this damn thing to come out, like we all have been for the last couple of years.

| Originally posted by Omega_Blue i understand what you mean, but i think the difference between involver 1/2 and balance 005/at the controls is that there is a certain mindset when going into making one of these albums. what i mean is, the involver "series" was meant to be a big album of handpicked music that sasha and his little production crew remixed, making it a big sasha production. balance 005 and at the controls are just dj mix cd's, nothing more. the point i'm getting at with my previous post was that sasha remixing his own music for involver 2 is kinda selfish and defeats the point of "involver". meh. |
