XM/Sirius merger..will we still get our EDM?

Sirius' Area 33, XM's broadcasts, etc.

I'm just wondering if we'll still get all of the great broadcasts that we all enjoy, since I've heard that they're going to combine all of their channels.

Has anyone heard anything?

im hoping they combine them both on one gigantic big network.

it would be awesome. area 38 and whatever shitbag edm channel xm has.

I am sure they will stay if not get bigger. Sirius needs to get rid of two shit channels anyway. 6 channels of different EDM would be nice.

Dude, what is up with you and all the negative comments? I have Sirius and they actually play some really good stuff on there. Sorry they don't have a channel for whatever it is you listen to.

Here is what I heard from DJ Armando, program director for BPM XM. After the merge, the new channel is going to be called Area 36.

I LIVE IN A SEA OF NEGATIVITY. THAT IS WHERE I LIVE SO THAT IS WHAT I SPOUT. I WAS RAISED HERE, SOME SAY. OFF CAPSLOCK AND NEGATIVE TIDINGS. NEGATIDINTY. YOU SEE, THIS IS WHY I AM THE WAY I AM. READ INTO IT. ANALYYYYZE. INTERPREEEEET. I NEED DEFINING. I NEED OUTSIDE JUSTIFICATION FOR MY ACTIONS. COMPLYYYYY.

I see them doing one channel keeping with the Area theme. The question is what will they do now that the merge has taken place and you have several DJs on XMs EDM side and Sirius side as well. What show will go where to fit with what is more of what im wondering.

I will say i love that it brings everything together so some shows are not exclusive to the other (Such as PVD's Vonyc Sessions on Sirius and AvB's State of Trance on XM) but i see them with a problem of too much content to use just 1 channel for it all.

I think we all understand that you can get some good electronic music off of Sirius.

I think what he's getting at is that satellite radio is not "thee" place for electronic music... unless you're into eurodance.

I respectfully disagree my friend, first question for you is do you actually listen/own a satellite radio, if not your opinions are inconsequential, if you do you will know that all the top radio shows in edm can be found on one of the two forums, Armin, Tiesto, Ferry, PVD, Markus, they also have many house musci shows as well. Both companies have been major spponsors and broadcast partners of the events at WMC, and they tend to keep me upto track on whats new in EDM. With that being said, i believe its only a mateer of time before we all have wi-fi in our car and will be listening to our favorite musci from the internet, instead of FM, satellite, and ipod, so satellite is doomed anyhow.

what you consider 'top' others will consider 'bargain bottom'.

some people have different tastes than you. i personally prefer not to have other people determine what i am listening to.

I've heard both xm and sirius stations. I don't personally have a subscription to either, but I can gather that they play top40ish edm and shows like Corsten's Countdown, ASOT, Club Life, and for some reason the station called 'BPM' or whatever has some undying fascination and admiration for Robbie Rivera.

I mean, really now

Definitely wouldn't use that to stay on top of edm. There's so many other, better, even free options out there. To pay for that tripe seems completely nonsensical.

Posted by Ek0nomik on Jul-28-2008 02:53:

I once used to think ASOT was the end all be all of EDM...

Don't make me talk about it... I won't!

Posted by r5a on Jul-28-2008 03:00:

Ek0nomik, Ted Promo: I'm pretty sure both of you don't have any current subscriptions to Sirius. I'm not going to get into much detail but they play a wide range of genres and top edm, or "eurodance" but they play depending on the time and date stuff ranging from minimal techno to trance, tribal, progressive. all sorts of good stuff.

+1
anyone saying all Sat radio is just comercial shit doesn't listen. Sure there are nights with PVD and Armin. BUT there is also stuff ranging from weekly Essentail Mixes, Tongs Essentail Selection, Macro Baileys Mission show, Carl Cox's sat show, etc... Tons of stuff on both xm/sirius. I hope with the merger it gets better with more selection.

You guys are missing the point.

There is tons of great stuff on there, I could spend about 30 minutes taking the time to post a short list of what they have played on there but lets just say there is an extraordinary amount of tunes played on there because of all the guest djs, shows.

The point is is that there's an infinitely larger amount of sets that I can find online and for free and I can look and find just the ones I want instead of whatever someone else is going to play. Not to mention if I really want to listen to a radio station that plays a certain genre of music, there's internet radio stations, 90% of which are free and sans some shitty radio dj. There's absolutely nothing you could list that could convince me that I wanna pay $15/mo to do what I can most certainly do myself and for free

It isn't free. I'm not missing the point.
