Beginner DJ looking for equipment
I have never DJed in my life before, but I would like to try it. I've been messing with some DJ software (serato, fl studio, virtual dj) and I really enjoy it.
So I want some real (like not virtual/software) equipment. So if I have like a $500 budget, would should I get and what software (if any) should I use it with?
I've been reading that CDJ-200's are good. I looked at some videos on youtube and it looks really fun. I'm not sure about a mixer though. Are mixer's necessary or are they just for extra effects?
Thanks.
If you've been messing around with Serato, than you should pretty much already have what you need. You can't use Serato as a stand alone program.
BTW, If you get CDJ's, than they will be useless without a mixer.
The only way you can get away without using a mixer, is if you use Traktor, or some sort of program that lets you mix internally like Ableton. Eitherway, pretty much a mixer is a MUST!

Ok, I will get a mixer. What are some good beginner mixers? I was thinking about a Numark 1002 mkii.
your best bet is to probably get a couple of cdjs and a mixer. no need for software, just download music (from a website like www.beatport.com) and burn them to cds to play in the cdjs
i'd reccomend starting off maybe the pioneer cdj-100 (or cdj-200) and a pioneer djm-300 mixer. that's how i started and i have no regrets
Go for the 200's and a mixer. You will spend over 500. With dj equipment if you go cheap, you will regreat it.
the denon dn-x100 is a perfect mixer for beginners

$500 = Save mo' $$$
800 mk1s go pretty cheap, and feel a lot better than 200s(jog) but 200s are a safe bet. Im using a numark dm1002x which feels a lot better than that numark you want but older. As stated above you should take a look at that denon.
I've been using software since the beginning of the year and mixing with it, but always yearned for that physical feel to the music, and today I just bought a Vestax VCM 004 from ebay and waiting for it in the mail. Next item on the list are a pair of CDJ 200s, so for now I can get a feel for my mixer physically rather than having to click everything and one at a time
i had a xession pro midi controller, i had to sell it after a month, im just not the type of person to use that, i needed a tabletop player
