Otiumfx Compadre Comadre Beatpuncher
Hi
I was looking for a compressor primarily for Kicks and percussion with some synth work and I came across this.
It looks fantastic and the reviews I could find were all positive.
To be honest my minds pretty much made up but before I take the plunge has any one here had any experience of using it and what are you views?
(There is a demo but I hate installing them )

Thanks
I don't know how you can buy something by going by someone else's word. You should mos def check out the demo, you are crazy if you don't. But, on the plug, to me its Ok, nothing real special. There are better but, the price 49.99 is not bad. When I used this plug, I could never get the sidechaining to sound the way I wanted it to sound but, maybe I was doing something wrong, that was way long ago. Personally I like Fab Filter Pro-C but, that will run ya $230, so thats a big difference. http://www.fabfilter.com/products/pro-c.php , there are some other good ones from Voxengo, and http://www.sonalksis.com/ , maybe way out of your price range but, just something to think about. Try before you buy buddy.

Jesus christ the other ones you mentioned look good. As a compressor is absloutley essential to production I'm pepared to spend upto about uk 250.00. I've now narrowed it down to the Fab Filter Pro C and Sonalksis SV-315 Mk2 . Gonna download the demo's now. Thanks
I can speak from personal experience having used and tried just about every sidechaining compressor out there and hands down Compadre Beatpuncher is bar far the best solution, IMO. No other comparable product produces results like Beatpuncher.
However one major downside I have found to keep in mind. This is something I've brought up to their support team several times with no response. You can use a single instance of Beatpuncher with no problems. When you add a 2nd instance it works fine and your project saves fine. However when you go to open back up your project file, it will not open and your sequencer (in my case Cubase SX 3) will crash. If this ever happens to you, just cut out the Beatpuncher .dll files from your VST plugins directory, open up the project, remove the 2nd instance, save the file, then close your sequencer and put the .dlls back. I've read posts on TA and on other forums confirming this so I know its not my setup. Maybe other sequencers would respond differently I'm not sure.
This is frustrating because I like to have several instances of Beatpuncher with different settings for different things. Because of this bug, I have to use inferior products to get the job done to get around not being able to use 2 or more instances of Beatpuncher. I'm hoping they fix this in their next release.
I use the Beatpuncher for sidechaining in Nuendo 3, it works alright.. and i havent experienced your problem Magnus.
This is one of my favorite plugs. Its one of the best software compressors there is, and it has got some sick shaping abilities. If you want your perc to truly stand out.. go with it.
Definitely my favorite compressor. Love it.
Magnus: I can use as many instances as I want. Using Ableton and FL.

| Originally posted by Subtle I`ve had 2 one time i remember, only use it to sidechain the bass really. So i thought`d i check and i made 5 tracks using the compadre for good measurement, and yes.. critical error. |
