Satan (eek!) No FAT Chicks

http://www.thisisjersey.com/2008/07...men-to-go-home/

quote:
FEMALE clubbers were refused entry into Havana nightclub on Saturday night for being too fat. Police were called to calm the situation outside the Halkett Street club as bouncers and manager Martin Sayers allegedly told women to go away and lose some weight.
Over 20 women are expected to give statements to the police today and a Facebook page, labelled Havana Club Jersey Discrimination and using an image from US cartoon Family Guy, has already attracted over 100 supporters calling for Islanders to boycott the club.
Georgina Mason was one of the ladies refused entry. The 23-year-old, who works for Lloyds TSB, had been enjoying a night out with friends when it turned sour.
About five or six or us got to Havana at about 11.30 pm and the bouncers said we were not allowed in because we were too big. I told them not to be ridiculous and asked to speak to the manager, she said.
When the manager came out he would not look at me directly but said that they had received too many complaints about fat people and he told me: Go and lose some weight before you can come in fat people are bad for business.

The libertarian in me says that the club is private property, which means that the owners are perfectly within their rights to refuse or grant entry to anyone they please.

not only the libertarian, im sure your common sense tells you that too

for gods sake, if you are going to any place to spend YOUR money and they wont let you in, just go to another place and spend it there y ya!

whats the fucking point of calling discrimination if it is private property and they did not purchase any entry tickets or anything guaranteeing entrance. Also most (all) clubs reserve the right to admit anybody, is printed in 99% of the flyers.

Just let them in and ridicule them to tears.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Jul-30-2008 14:14:

There's also a gender angle on this: the article says nothing about fat men being refused entry, and I kind of doubt that they were.

In a club owner's eyes, maybe a fat woman is worse for business than a fat man.

because it is?

Exactly, but your all missing the most important part of this.

No one likes fat chicks.

I slightly disagree, and i would like to ammend it to "No one likes a club full of fat chicks"

There like wasps, when they are on there own they are OK, not a problem, but if there are too many of them, they become a menace and require extermination.

the owner did nothing wrong the way I see it

plus uno. Owners reserve that right.

I'm sure this isn't the only club in town of which to get pissed in and dance to their slushy-hearts content. If they're so desperate to get into 'Havana' in future, perhaps this will give them the motivation needed to keep off the KFC's.

Posted by chimera66 on Jul-30-2008 15:08:

i've heard of stuff like this before...people get refused entry for all types of reasons. i'm sure this happens everywhere but people don't explicitly say "its because you are fat"

somewhat along those lines, yes. seems like someone beat me to the punch tho.

Posted by XaNaX on Jul-30-2008 15:14:

lol at them calling for a boycott. That would make me way more likely to go there knowing that there won't be any fat chicks at the club

Posted by chimera66 on Jul-30-2008 15:20:

some people have a thing for bigger women so that's not good for them. being bigger isn't a bad thing either.

if the manager had said, "we don't want to let you in 'cause you're black/a woman/are missing a leg" would have the same position?

private establishments don't have the right to shit on federal civil rights -- and while girth isn't yet covered under these statutes, the club would lose if this went to court.

clubs, of course, do this shit all the time, but most doormen and managers have the common sense to keep their own fat mouths shut about why fatsos/slobs/ugly gimps are refused entry.

Getting and staying fat is, at least to some extent, a lifestyle choice. Being black, a woman, or legless is not.

Unless the person cut off his own leg...but that's pretty darn rare.

Posted by DJ_Eternal on Jul-30-2008 15:31:

I don't suspect a fat, legless, black woman would fancy her chances of getting into 'havana' then after the whole fat-gate fiasco above.

what do you mean "bigger"? they were fat, they weren't "bigger", they were FUCKING FAT. people get refused entry for their shoes, trousers whatever.. saying you're too fat is pretty reasonable, them sweaty fat bitchez will make others feel uncomfortable on the dance floor

True, I wouldn't dare get caught in fat, sweaty traffic on the dancefloor. Health & Safety.

People's perception of 'fat' varies from one to the next. A chubby person, while not carrying much baggage, could be defined as really hefty to somebody, and reasonable to another.

Me? I don't mind doing a bit of chubby-chasing every once in a while.
