Idea *FIXED* Fruity loops 8 - first song- potential?

Hows it goin guys? So i recently got fruity loops studios 8 and i didnt read any tutorials or whatnot so i didnt make my own sounds, i just used preset sounds. I jumped into the program pretty easily because i played the piano a few years back when i was younger and the concepts carried over very nicely. So i only used the channel window and the pattern window (for those who know what im talking about) Tell me whaty ou think, its my first song. People that heard it that would normally openly tell a friend if it sucked or not actually really liked it. So lemme knwo! =)

*edit* ooh sweet thanks terrence parker =)

Sounds somewhat like acid and sounds like it was made in FruityLoops by an amateur. <---no offense to this comment- just speaking the truth. Keep practicing man, Fruity is not that bad but, it just does sound like you used presets in it, just like you said. You never said what type of music you are trying to produce but, I can tell you it does not sound like trance

lol well of course im an amateur i made that song in like 3 days of 30 minute sessions, but for what it is i thought it was pretty good. i tried making it closer to infected mushrooms psy-trance. but this song basically is a poorly coreographed drawing board of ideas. you dont think for my very minimal knowledge of the program that that was any good?

Hey

The potensiall is there - especially with FL 8, when u got piano skills.
as the whole app is built up on the piano rolls for making beats - melodys - basses, makes it really easy if you know your C5s and D3s etc.

I made this dark psy somewhat elecktro bla bla track the other night,

in FL 8, so before going to another app such as reason or cubase, keep on producing !

GL & have fun!

I wasn't trying to imply that you suck or anything, just saying I could tell you were amateur. Basically, it sounded like something I would've made when I was first starting out. You got ideas, and an idea for timing, unlike some. Its not bad for a beginner, just, when you said you had played piano before I was expecting a little more. Just keep at it, and you will be great!

I think this song is awesome!

You got a lot of potential there. The mixing could be better but the groove is great.

god damn dude thats pretty crazy.
sounds like the drop of one of hallucinogens songs or 1200 mics =P

And thank you for the good words guys, im gunnu take ur advice and try to refine what i know. would you recommend reading the F1 readme thing on FL studios before i go any further? how did you go about learning the program?

Posted by cybernetica on Aug-01-2008 18:00:

first, try to become familiar with the basics. A good way would be reading tutorials, and browse the projects folder of FL studio. Theres some tutorials in there.

then you can watch a lot of FL tutorial videos on youtube. The most complete are probably these: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=nfxbeats&p=r

hehe yea i know, the thing is, this is just the beta of it but then my windows boot screwed me but shutting down ( during godfather 2 ) and when i tried to boot it again it just apears a dot..... so atm im on my linux, yet i managed to grab my last export from the track. but as you can hear its not mastered at all, some beats are higher then others and i havnt even made the " Psy speaker panning layer " yet..

Otherwise as to go about learning overall FL, for me :

first off i stuck to the basics, sytrus, FPC, etc etc, just to get that hang of composing a track with beats and melodys and basslines, maybe for 2-3 months, after that when it was a familiar inviroment i started to download sample packs and verious VST apps and tried to copy sounds in tracks. And some tutorials as stated above.

The FL bible i wouldnt recommend tho - its to big.

Just listen to any track, hear a sound and try to make it piece by piece. - thats how i tought myself over the years.

and thanks for the nice comments on my track !
