John Tejada & Kate Simko 8.8.08 @ Smartbar
anyone heading out for this? Tejada is one of my all time favorite producers, and I've been wanting to see him dj for quite awhile. I got the chance to see Kate Simko here in Boston the other night and she ripped it, so this should be a fun time...

Lucky Bunch
good stuff...
matthew dear next fri anyone?
tejada was great, but short, the rest was forgettable. the sweat on the walls crazy live acid rework he did was well worth the price of admission!
For some reason I thought this was on Saturday not Friday. Thanks for the heads up Randy! Otherwise I would've been waiting for Tejada last night, lol. Too bad I couldn't make it. : (
i walked into a really weird scene on the way out
this fat kid was on a mission
i guess they kicked him out or something for bothering people
so as i was walking out he was in this security guards face telling him "fuck your life, fuck your life... i'm going to fuck you in your ear, the world is going to end and it will be funny"
and this continued for about 20 minutes
then some random guy on the street started coaching the fat kid
he's like "you need to be more sincere"
"try saying it while down on one knee"

have to say I was disappointed he wasn't using the Monomachine + Machinedrum combo..
I thought he was just using a couple of Monomes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJwxbTKwONc - skip to about a minute in if you want something sick) linked together?
Have wanted to play with one of those for a very, very long time. I can't even say how many times I've watched the demo videos - definitely thought that's what I had heard Tejada was on, but maybe I'm wrong.
Anyone have pics of the setup Ruben is referring to? Would love to see what his PA setup is like.
Actually, here's a video of John using one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE2sAdvDraU

Edit: Pt 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc-ylVc63mQ
Also, http://www.monome.org for more info. Very cool community of electronic musicians embracing these kinds of homebrew devices - awesome to see it used to create such diverse sounds.
yeah he had that at Smartbar - you can see it better here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc-ylVc63mQ
he also had a controller in front of it, it looked like a horizontal strip with about 8 knobs and possibly sliders.
I give him props for using that setup, which was intriguing for sure - just enjoyed watching/hearing the Monomachine + Machinedrum setup better since there was no laptop = "realer" live PA.
no camera FTL..
the controller looked similar to this but the knobs were about .5"cm in diameter.. that's a guesstimate.
