do any of you gus ever shop in this section?. or maybe you have your own profile, and if so how as your experience been.
i'm just asking becuase from what i have heard working with labels is a pain in the ass, and you usually never get paid. so you may as well have control of your own music, right?.
if you haven't yet seen this check out the link below
http://www.audiojelly.com/
then look for "unsigned artists"
That's kind of cool, actually. I'd never seen it before.
or u could just start up a label called "lowski" like Underworld did with their own name, Underworld Live (or something?).
yeah i have thought about doing my own label , but you always hear how beatport and such is now flooded with new labels. many of which aren't good hahah . so i think most people would just skip past them and just look for familiar labels and artists. i'm sure the same is true with the unsigned artists section of audiojelly, but at least you get your own profile page. then i guess just promote, promote, promote !!.
plus 80% royalty and being able to veiw sales 24/7. sounds pretty good to me.
i'm curious if anyone has already done this, and what your experience has been. look it's a good time to get in so easy self promotion
so lets hear it
ive only put up my own label and its quit fun to do everything yourself. wont get me rich tho but thats not what im doing anyway. to me i want to be able to express myself anyway i want without a stupid label telling that wont sell. im not following trends thats why i wanted to try and its the best thing ive done when it comes to fredom. its abit of work tho but i feel good when doign everything myself from making to promo to uploading and to watch the sales (which is low lol). i guess u could do the same thing with audiojelly/artist but what will u do on the other mp3-portals? just make a label named you, its a good idea i think. lowski - bombtrack (lowski remix) [lowski-traxx]. lol
I actually did join AudioJelly but, funny thing, I have not finished a song I am happy with to put on there
. Guess I should have waited since I had to pay a fee. It was only like $20 for a year I think. But, the royalty percentages looked good to me and I thought I would start finishing some tracks soon, apparently not. I just personally like the fact that there are other artists on there and I really just wanna work on my music and not spending so much time worrying about a label, even though having your own label would be nice to control everything. Once I actually finish something that I'm happy with, I am actually thinking about using Beatport but, I guess I need to start finishing tracks on a consistent level or you can't keep selling tracks on there. I remember reading that somewhere.
I made an electro house label called sticky recordings never had any real good stuff on there tralectric was ok but apart from that i was just releasing any crap i came up with. Its useful though because now i have dl agreements with djdownlaod which services MOS and others, trackitdown, beatsdigital etc
So what im planning is rather than go through the hassle of posting contracts etc I can now just create a sub label for my trance releases. Im not at a level with trance i would be happy charging someone for a song lol. When I am ready though i can release stuff without having all the trouble i experienced from a stingy label.
Does anyone know how to get on Beatport someone told me you must go through a distribution company but i dont know.
Also it is a major ballache releasing say a 3 track ep you must upload all different songs individually to all the diff sites through a FTP program which can take hours! Then you have to match them and write the release notes on each and catalogue nos and it just puts me off doing it anymore lol.
