Tiesto's mixing @ Global DJ Broadcast, Radio 93.1 20.05.02
Now, I'll be the first to take Tiesto's side on these forums when he's being criticized for his technique, but this set ... Ugh I don't know if he's getting comfortable at/near the top but this mixing isn't exactly quality. I could probably do as well as he did and I'm very amateur.
Any other opinions on this?
(esp. the disaster before the mix into Nalin and Kane - 'Open Your Eyes')
Most people who rate him very highly do so mainly on his track selection... His mixing skills are very suspect. Even when he does manage to beatmatch I don't think he usually chooses the best tracks to mix together and his mixing usually sound pretty basic, not too creative. He's very overated in my opinion...
I've never been blown away by a Tiesto mix and thought "OMG, I can't believe that mix. That was amazing!". I think any world class DJ of his status should elicit that kind of response from me at least occasionally...
Was the mxing from this set bad again..... Im a massive Tiesto fan but i am being introduced to minging sets were beats are flying...Isreal, NEC and now this, he he,. I still love hime though.
Maybee you can gimme a link for the set, see for my-self.

Cheers mate, Ill go have a sniff around
riiping it now
Listening to the set right now and the mixing really sucks, just like the one in Haoman 17.
I am actually surpised of some of the mixings because it is not in ANY WAY seamless, altho the mixing between Southern Sun (DJ Tisto mix) and that other tune was kinda fun the other is just not good.
And the recording aint that good either, lots of clipping in it.
You could diss his technique and his mixing skills all you want, i guess but when you see him live.....it's another story. I saw him live in october and he tore the house down. But then again, we could find fault in just about every deejay's track selection or technique, i think it depends on the individual.
Don't get me wrong, I liked his mixing during that huge Dutch Dimension set, he just kept going on and on.
But his mixing in this set is just not impressive, winamp does better crossfade by itself when i switch between two tunes.
On another hand I miss that individuality that other DJs have
such as van Dyk, Westbam and Dave Clarke, but I guess it will come to him..

Well i will be in the posistion to comment on a live tiesto performance in exactly one week !!!!

I agree with the above comment that Tiesto is more liked for his epic track selection. I for one, think that Paul Van Dyk is a better mixer than Tiesto. Then again, most of PVD's tracks have a similar baseline.
Also, trance is not a style of music which you can mix for too long. Most of the transition between songs is rather short. Those of you wholisten to House or Progressive should know what I mean.
Nevertheless, Tiesto is a great crowd reader. I have seen him 4 times and he has not dissappointed. He knows how to create a good vibe and to make the crowd go crazy.
For me, Tiesto's main problem is that almost every time he introduces a new track it comes from nowhere. Other than that, his beatmatching is pretty good.

i dont like tietso bashing
or any dj bashing for that matter, especially on their minor screw ups. the mixing isn't that bad in that set, i dont see what everyone is complaining about. tiesto is a great crowd pleaser, allways has been. he knows how to get the crowd going and he interacts quite a bit. just take a look at the pics from quebec city that someone posted here
every dj has his bad days, and it just so happens that we heard two sets in a row that have bad mixing techniques. he does a lot more gigs than we hear, and i bet they are much better, plus it all sounds much better live.
where can i download this set? i wana hear this quality mixing!
